When Their Love Fell Apart

Updated on April 30, 2013

They were a typical couple

The high school sweethearts

Whose love would never end

They drifted through college together

And set up a home

It all seemed to come apart

When his job got in the way of love

And when Maria announced a baby on the way

He felt like life was out of control

Oh, the love was still there for sure

Just buried under the bills and the worry

It almost made it all worth while

The day their sunny, baby girl was born

There were days that seemed

Like it was all a dream

But reality moved on in again

Sleepless nights and baby cries

And Maria wanting love

When all he wanted was sleep

Oh, he tried to keep it together

He couldn’t stand her tears

Weekends of pretending

That family life was ideal

Lullabies and wishful dreams

Until reality nudged them again

Money worries and grocery bills

And a job with a dead end

Then one day when he came home

Ready for another round

Maria and the baby weren’t there

The note told him she would love him

Probably forever more

But she needed a different kind of life

A life that would give her promise

And dreams that could be fulfilled

So bravely she had gone off

And her parents took her in

But late at night

When the quiet surrounded

She longed for the arms

That no longer held her

Oh, he was angry

And he was upset

At night he dreamed of her kisses

And called her name out loud

But then he pulled it all together

After he knew that he was on top

That the future would be bright

He began woeing his wife back

Maria had flowers and chocolates

The baby had rattles and toys

And pretty soon she was ready

To speak to the man who wouldn’t leave her heart

They had another wedding

One for the three of them

And they headed down the road

To a life of happiness and joy

Once again Gypsy your poetry makes me experience, drama, confusion, love, pathos, but that's why it works so successfully thumbs up :)

I believe love lives on.. into eternity. We all sometimes need to experience time and a change of perception. Our world can be so full of responsibilities and work that we lose vision of ourselves. Thanks for creating this hub!
