When Two Hearts Meet

Updated on December 8, 2014

Outside the rain was coming down

the world bleak and gray

a week before Christmas

and it seemed so unreal

sitting by the window

watching the rain fall

like so many tears

he was done with crying

now there was just frustration

the woman he loved

was miles away

there were so many reasons

for them to be together

the most important one was love

and so many reasons for them to be apart

the most important one her career

they’d met years ago

in a New York City café

he’d wandered in

feeling sort of lonely

brooding over a whiskey

she came on the little stage

and when she started singing

her simple country song

so many memories came rushing back

and he almost grimaced with pain

then he looked at her

and he fell in love

they met that very night

and she too fell head over heels

so his weekends were spent

listening to her sing

those were magical days

when they spoke of their dreams

nights spent loving one another

and life seemed so special

they shared two of the most wonderful Christmases

and he wanted to make her his for life

that third Christmas

but it wasn’t meant to be

along came an agent

and his love became a country star

oh, she did ask him

to follow along

but he wasn’t into all of that

and so he had to be content

to listen to her on the radio

and love her from afar

for awhile she sent him love notes

telling him that she longed for him

but as long as her career grew

he so no point in it all

her interviews all ended the same

that there was a special someone in her heart

and he sadly smiled

how he wished that this rainy Christmas

he could get her out of his heart

miles and miles away

performing her most popular song

she too remembered

remembered those simple Christmases

and the man who had stolen her heart

when the concert was over

her decision had been made

and her many fans heard what she had to say

without the love of her life

life was not meant for living

she’d rather retreat to the shadows once more

than to live without him for ever more

the news hit the waves

and shocked a great many

except for those who believed in true love

they knew the sacrifices you had to make

meanwhile walking by

the gaily decorated Christmas windows

wet and tired and so sad

he decided that love was all that really mattered

and that without her

he couldn’t go on

so once home he threw some things together

deciding that other decisions could come later

and he called for a cab

the cab driver a great country music fan

was excitedly babbling about something

something about how wonderful love was

that a rising star like her could give it all up

and he wondered who the lucky guy was

but it all went in one ear and out the other

as he wondered what she would say

would she welcome him home

would she tell him she still cared

or would this journey

show him what a fool he really was

the plane had already landed

and she was on pins and needles

she’d promised one more interview

to share with the world her true love

but was he waiting for her

that she didn’t know

and it depressed her to see that

it was raining in New York City

raining or perhaps crying tears

for a love she had already lost

rushing through the gate

she dashed forward

while he was rushing to his gate

and so it as sometimes fate likes it so

the ran right into each other

they stood there in surprise

then they just knew

and as they embraced and kissed

it seemed as if a million cameras flashed

they had followed right behind her

but the kissing couple didn’t care

and suddenly the rain stopped

and large silvery snowflakes came down

it was going to be

a white Christmas after all

      Beautiful descent:

...and suddenly the rain stopped and large silvery snowflakes came down...

giving rise to sincere enduring attraction! The natural course of things bring the best of change.

      Lovely read, thank you,

Love won in the end. He was more important to her than her career. He was willing to deal with her fame in order to be together. What a sweet love story!
