When We Miss A Shot

Updated on January 12, 2011

Those Times When We Want To Forget

How embarressing or sad can it be

To not live up to our potential

To see us suddenly fall short of all our dreams

If it is something small we wanted to get done or a big project that blew up in our face

I like to think of it as a lesson

At the time we probably can't think at all

Just so frustrated with ourselves and we are doing everything in our power not to loose our temper

I like to think back to a sport I always loved to play

Basketball and the game of twenty one

It is when you play against an opponent and both of you take shots from the free throw line

You have to get the first shot in from the free shot line to be able to catch your oppontents rebound shots

Then you can start scoring points

Two points for the first shot behind the line

Then you continue shooting and two points each after that

When you miss a shot then it is the next players turn

If they didn't get their first shot in they have to keep shooting behind the free thow line

One shot on their turn until one goes in

If they miss the other person gets the rebound where ever the ball bounces

As long as they got that first shot in

They have to catch it on one bounce and take their shot from where they are standing

If they get that shot in they go to the free throw line

The first rebound shot is one point then the shots behind the free throw line our two points after

You keep score and the first person to reach twenty one wins

Say you are twenty and miss your shot

You have to go to half court and shoot from there to get your final point in

That gives the other person time to catch up

Each of your rebounds is then taken from that line until you get one in

After you get the winning basket in you  keep shooting until you miss just in case your opponent catches up

They have to keep shooting for points too

It was a game I enjoyed playing growing up

Sometimes I would practice alone for hours on certain shots

Knowing my next game should be better than my last

Practicing until my next friendly competion

I can remember playing well

When you get shot in after shot

Other times I couldn't get one shot in to save my life

Just off my game a little bit and no matter how hard I tried it wasn't my day

I had to chalk it up to experience and remember it is just one day of many

I learned how to play each game to the end

Win or loose

No matter what the outcome

You played fair and once in a blue moon you have the uncanny luck and make a wonderful comeback

You just don't know what will happen next

Life is just that way

No matter how much we practice to do things

Sometimes things just don't work out

Tomorrow is another day

Let's all learn to play, play and play

Waiting for the game of our life

I Hope today is your day

Play to win but if you loose

Play with heart and don't forget to congratulate the winner for playing so well
