When White Ribbons Turn Into Chains

REMEMBER WHEN YOUR KISS DIDN'T HURT?

WHEN YOUR HANDS EVOKED TENDERNESS?

I ALREADY FORGOT THE TASTE OF HAPPINESS,

INSTEAD IS FEAR THAT GREETS MY LOVE.

REMEMBER HOW I SOUGHT YOU IN THE DARK?

TO FIND SWEET REFUGE IN YOUR ARMS.

NOW THE DARKNESS IS MY CLOAK.

TO HIDE AWAY THE CONFUSION OF MY HEART.

REMEMBER THE PROMISES MADE?

NAMING STARS AFTER OUR LOVE,

PAINTING THE CLOUDS BRIGHT.

TO SEE IT ALL, VANISH INTO THE NIGHT.

REMEMBER WHEN WE WERE ONE?

AND ONLY DEATH WAS THE ENEMY

THEN VOWS TURN INTO ASHES

WHEN YOUR ANGER TURNED AGAINST ME.

REMEMBER WHEN YOU LOVED ME?

WHEN YOUR SWEET KISS DIDN'T LIE.

I LOVED YOU, LOVED YOU DEARLY,

AND YET IN YOUR ARMS, I DIE.

Indeed self-esteem is the key to value yourself enough to stop the cycle of violence. Very sad...

Sadly beautiful. Your words are so accurate and pack a punch. How terrible it is that love can change so quickly to this controlling, malicious atmosphere and yet some stay in that situation because they still love their partners. Difficult to understand but it happens every day. Self-esteem and confidence are shattered and so difficult to get back.

Well done for bringing this subject to the fore. Great poem. Ann

It is a sad poem, but it's important that these things are written about and brought into the light.

Very sad cycle. To remember the beauty of love and know that it is dead is a smothering emotion. Nice writing!

This could make lyrics for a blues song. Good effort.
