When Will Love

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

When will love relent,

that yearning of a needy heart,

a soul displaced right from the start,

my lonely days are spent.

And now, in honour of my silent plea,

my words within me resigned to be,

an epitaph to my sorrow.

Love, the harshest pain and sweetest gain I know.

When will life turn around,

this prison cell just holds me back,

my heart in shadows from all I lack,

this endless song resounds.

And now, I'm chasing a string of illusions,

the remnants of my past restitutions,

I'm drowning in what I've found.

Love, the harshest pain and sweetest gain I know.

When will love repent,

for all that it has caused my heart,

for blood that spilt on my behalf,

and now finds cause to vent.

I know, that somehow I must now let go,

the past mistakes that plague me so,

to survive another day.

Love the harshest pain and sweetest gain I know.

When will love relent.

Love, the subject of so many poems, prose and song lyrics. It enlivens our emotions and gets to us in ways no other subject can.

Thanks Martin; I too create at the whim of my current mood, re subject matter, style and rhyme. Poetry is like a chronicle of our inner feelings as they emerge.

Love is what everyone yearns for in life, from child to adult! Without it, we are not complete. But love comes in many forms and we must accept what we are offered. Sometimes friendship, relationships are both rewarding.
