When the Night Falls - an original song

Updated on August 11, 2013

My life is just a dream sometimes
Wake up, flashback
It's all over
I never said I'd be here when you returned
He said "Call me an echo"
Drifting through your sorry mind
It hurts right now
But you'll love me when the night falls

All I ever wanted was you
Twisted smile and deep black eyes
All I ever dreamed to come true
But your melody won't come to mind
You're a song I'll never hear again
A life I'll never lead but then
I knew that you'd leave me all along...
When the night falls

My dreams become my life sometimes
In darkness he comes back
and it's all over
But he never promised me any more
And I am an echo
Drifting through my daydreams now
It hurts more than I know
But he'll find me when the night falls

All I ever wanted was you
Twisted smile and deep black eyes
All I ever dreamed to come true
But your melody won't come to mind
You're a song I'll never hear again
A life I'll never lead but then
I knew that you'd leave me all along...
When the night falls

Your words are my thoughts
and your touch is my own
Your smile is my need to
Never be alone

All I ever wanted was you
Twisted smile and deep black eyes
All I ever dreamed to come true
But your melody won't come to mind
You're a song I'll never hear again
A life I'll never lead but then
I knew that you'd leave me all along...
When the night falls

When the night falls
When the night falls
When the night falls
You'll be there

Background to the song

As an author, I find myself often falling in love with the characters I write about and wishing that they were real people who I could actually lose my heart to. I wrote this song as a sort of funny-slash-metaphorical look at this strange desire to love someone who exists only in my head, who I can only be with in daydreams.
