Where’s my Audience?

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

I cannot believe just how little I’m read,

considering what my willing readers have said.

Their comments and accolades give me great hope,

that my words will endure and my future has scope.

I write with a passion about subjects I know,

and aspire to the greatness of a Thomas or Poe.

My work is consistent and a quality worth,

a great more readership than HubPages has birthed.

I’ve played with one hundred some three times in months,

and tweaked my tags to get four hundred in lumps.

But stats of consistency elude my words,

and don’t know how to deal with it, my logic absurd.

Is there a trick to link with an audience in droves,

as I know that my writing once read will evoke.

A response of connection I have made with so many,

to increase my statistics and responses to any.

It’s not that I’m arrogant or need pats on the head,

I just want an audience before I am dead.

I’m sitting here working my butt off to be,

discovered and published with success I can see.

So tell me, am I selfish or has my ego taken flight,

to wish that my words were more read and in sight.

As insecure as writers and artist can be,

I’m relatively stable, just want answers, if you please.

Any clues?

Thanks WB, Hattie is right. The idea of the site is to interact and share with other hubbers, not just write. We all have to be patient and keep working away.

The whole time for interaction thing is a challenge, isn't it? I have to ration my time for hubtivity too. I also think Hattie might have a point. Only certain people need the message at any one time. My readership is growing ever so slowly and this is something my ego can't stand. It wants it all now. I have to be more patient. I suppose it goes back to that whole, "time wounds all heals" thing...Oh wait...That's not it. Anyway, never mind. Have a nice night. ;)

Thanks Jami. I think you're right. My problem is time, but I guess the whole concept is based on interaction and therefore scores a reflection of that.

I notice i get more responses and a higher score when i inter act with other writers , i read their work and they read mine and vice versa ... if they dont read mine then i no longer read theirs , tit for tat if you will ,and i have noticed thats how alot of people are on here . try it , it might work for you

I'm new around here, but I have a personal blog as well. I write unique content for each, but promote my hubs on my blogs and in two weeks it has increased my overall traffic to each place. It also helps because the back links give your posts/hubs more "importance" in the eyes of search engines which can bring in more people. A couple of my hubs have already been found on Google because they have been cross promoted and liked on Facebook etc.

I really enjoy your writing by the way and have read several of your hubs :)

I have read that it can take 6 months or better to really get a following and strong numbers here. Perhaps if you had a website portfolio that highlighted all of your work it would help a bit?

Thanks Flora. I understand the concept but in application it seems a bit wierd. Just part of the game I guess.

Apparently individual hub scores and your overall score are not that much interrelated. The hubber score has something to do with your participation overall. The hubs and their own scoring are a little more obscure.

Yeah I have the same thing happening on my end. I've never understood myself. I just went down 2 in one hour. :)

Thanks Hattie. This is a tad tongue in cheek, but sometimes I don't get how stats are arrived at. It seems when I'm getting more hits and responses my score goes down, and then when things are slow my scores go up. Certainly not the reason I write; I just don't get it. Thanks for commenting.

hmm, lol well I've had those thoughts, but than I understand for myself it is not about being popular, or getting attention but writing a message, and feel that god will always carry the message if true to those who need to hear it the most. So maybe only a few need to know, maybe a thousand or more, but he is the only one that knows! :)
