Whispers In the Heart

Updated on January 25, 2016
Source

What do you say when there’s nothing left to say

And not much left of yesterday

There never was an ax to grind

Only temporary things that blind

They only had the power we allowed

To do with then, not the here and now

Yet behind the smoke, even then

I continued to see my friend

Perhaps that was the truth that mattered most

But it too has fled like a faded ghost

That will haunt my heart evermore

With only whispers of the life it brought before

It's always sad when people push each other away, Flourish. So unnecessary. We do what we do when we do it and reasons may seem valid at the time, but those temporary reasons often permanently separate. That's a sort of saddness that lingers every time someone crosses the mind that was once close. Permanent solutions to temporary problems. Everything else is lost too. The saddest thing, though, is that if the problems are left in the past, there's no real reason to stay apart. Yet people go forward and move on assuming people should remain in the past as if the actual problem was the person.

But then again, what do I know? I'm rambling. Sometimes, I guess, the person is the problem and there is an axe to grind, so to speak. At any rate, life is just like that sometimes.

Well, I used the HP comment section to reply and it seems to have lost the reply to you, Faith, Always, and Ed. So sorry. I didn't overlook you.

Faith, those whispers often do give the heart a little pang. Thank you so much for your kind words about my poetry.

Ed, happy to see you as always. Thank you. I've found that it likely would not matter even if the whispers could be heard.

Thanks, Ruth. I liked another picture better, but it didn't have creative commons rights so I couldn't use it. This picture is rather haunting, though, isn't it?

Shanmarie, lovely poem and rhyme scheme. I like the lines

"They only had the power we allowed

To do with then, not the here and now"

      Well done.

Thanks, Jodah. How often do we let things that seem so big at the time over shadow the things that really matter? Those shadows don't last forever. In my opinion, the shadows are the things to let go of. IN the process, we tend to let go of the things we think are casting the shadows, but it's often another issue casting the shadows instead. Yet we do not go back for the value lost that would otherwise still have potential to be in the here and now, unlike the temporary shadows.

Thank you, Rasma. Sometimes I try for rhythm on purpose, but usually it just comes naturally. This is one that came to me without much effort. Glad you like it. :)

      what a beautiful emotional poem.

people in the name of societies preconceived notion of its ills,

      act against their own will,

further making living a living hell,

      for all.

Thank you, Hari. Your comment caused me to think some. Yes, I think when we act against our own will it often does complicate things even more.
