Who Am I Behind All Those Whiskers

Updated on April 18, 2012

I Can't Believe My Eyes

It is early the sun isn't even up

I rub my hand across my chin

Feeling the rough facial hair that covers every spot

Back and forth so light almost a tickle

Wondering what it would be like never to shave

To see my hair grow and grow

My lips real thin and only seen when I laugh or yawn

A wirey bush that looks so wild

My eyes peek above only to see and occasionally sleep

My ears are barely visible

The beard grows long and down it looks more like a birds nest

It curls and winds like a fishing net

Blowing in the wind

Then again to pick up a razor and cut slowly each hair that has grown

Watching the hairs tumble and fall

What do we have here

Two cheeks and lips that shine in the light

To see all the teeth oh my god what a sight

Ears that balance each side

So when your eyes open wide

There is nothing to hide

I look younger and happier

That is the look I enjoy the most

Now I run my fingers from one side of my face to the other

They glide across the smooth surface like a newly waxed floor

I love it ,I love it

I do it again and again

I will enjoy being clean cut until my whiskers pop up like dandilions in a field

Where there is one there is many

Then I will have to make a choice to shave or let it grow

My daughter ask my granddaughter what happen to the cats whiskers. My granddaughter explained she didn't like them while holding the scissors in her hand. Enjoyed your poem. Voted Up.

Ha Ha you don´t know how funny you are do you?

You always make my day, with or without whiskers.

I don´t think Içd like to see a cat without whiskers, though.

I had a pretty full (red beard) for about 2 years or so. Now it would be gray, grizzled like my moustouche, so I shave nearly every day. I keep the 'stache because when I shaved it off once there was about an acre of flesh btween my lip & my nose. Up on this good hub!
