Who more than I?

Updated on September 3, 2011

Who more than I?

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Who more than I know the improbability of triumph,

the unending torment of victory unattainable.

With unerring visions of illusion wavering,

we cannot in good faith proceed with our course.

Yet blinded by the spoils of a rash conquest,

we push forward into the sweet entrapment of denial.

Unhinged, we then become the joke of all jokes,

bloodied and forlorn from the gashes of our own blade.

Intrepid we may be but naive in our perceptions,

we face giants with our sling, our wits and resolve.

Far be it for us to see the fight as futile,

to realise the fight has been chosen wrongly.

How often is struggle seen as the path of gain,

when overcoming adversity is less of a fight than acceptance.

The value in triumph is gain of another creed,

another more subtle lesson of life.

Who more than I know that overcoming ones enemy is about balance,

never at the whim of battle, the conquest of mite.

I know because I have been the warrior,

the enforcer of will and the holder of the spoils.

My reward, absolutely nothing.

Extremely well-written. I love your imagery, and choice of words. I'm going to be following, and looking forward to seeing more.
