Why Do We Resist Change ?

Updated on March 13, 2014

It's Been Our Closest Friend

Loyal to the end

Doing what it has promised from the start

Giving us a thrill in every moment

Showing us examples constantly

We as people are fooling ourselves right from the beginning

Thinking we can make up rules to guide us through every move

As a way to protect us from the uncertainty of our minds

Instead of embracing change in every turn

We turn away and fight it as the enemy from within

Waiting for things to change once again

So they can go back to the way it was

When we have believed only what we want to

Trying to sway every situation into our favor

As we hold things tighter in our grasp

We lose control and we watch

As things slip away and become out of reach

Desperately we try to gain what we have lost

Helplessly struggling but it is never too late

If we could only see

What is blind to me

As the weather howls outside in a wild rage

Neither tamed or caged

Let it be

Listen to it's fury

A power not to be controlled

To be respected and nurtured

Like a new seedling that fights for life

We must also embark on a new journey

One that will take us far into the unknown

This time consciously aware of what will happen next

Seeing our unconscious reveal itself in a never ending beauty

With a sense of humor and grace

Welcome all that is different

As foreign as it may be

It is those differences that make you happy not sad

Willing not frozen in a block of ice waiting to thaw

Accepting ones errors and mistakes

So we can value our remarkable growth in spurts

Not planned and organized that we have for years assumed to be true

We are accused of a crime that is to awful to list on any book

To be wrong and to be human

One that I have to confess

I have been guilty of all of my life

annart There is a part of us that wants to stay who we are because we like who we have become. Then there is another part that knows we have to change to grow and be better than we were before. To strive for more. Take risks and fail. In the end never looking back and adjusting to life as it is. Taking the good and the bad in stride. Thank you for reading and sharing your comments. Without such comments my writings would have little value.

Great thoughts here. Change is necessary but can be good or bad; we have to go with the flow and adapt accordingly. Most of all, we have to learn and grow and get the most out of life as we live it, day to day. Ann

Gypsy Rose Lee Just when I thought I had a few answers change is like a monkey wench in the works and I have to start all over again. I am living proof change is constant. So instead of making a book How To Live A Better Life I turned it into a comedy. Surprise! You Didn't See This Coming. Funny on every turn. Thank you for reading and sharing your insight and love.

Change is inevitable and with change we learn and grow.

Michael-Milec Change from all directions makes us who we are today. Accepting our choices with a positive attitude and looking to go forward. Thank you for reading and sharing your comments.

      Hello Michael.

Sigh,- did you her it? After first reading my impression was , it is quite enigmatic. Next realization perhaps ambiguous… Then, analyzing my life's journey, one of the wondering , ' is it well with me ? ' or reality too unknown resistance to changes. My perception is acceptance that what is presented, or the opportunity will leave you behind and you'll be spending much time thinking what if ? . . . Now while going - before I'm "gone" skipping the opportunity- probably -to be accused of crime or being guilty of what?? Being human is natural in this body;however after getting into the "redeemed " crowd an ambient might be/is the same with different choices .

      Voted interesting.

      Make a great day.

kerlund74 The harshness and sharp pain that can come from the unexpected and unwanted is something I have a tough time with. Pressing forward is the only way to go. Living in a world of such beauty for those who reach for it at all cost. Thank you for showing me I have to leave my cave and all my beautiful artwork to have a better life. After I see the sun and feel the rain. Hear the thunder and run from the lightning.I have long forgotten the cave and now climb the next hill that leads to a mountain. Sometimes we have to see it, hear it over and over again before it sinks in. Thank you for your comment my friend.

Without change we would still live in caves... Change can hurt and be painful, but through change we take a step forward, that is life. Wonderful hub!
