Why Don't People Think ?

Updated on May 5, 2016

It's Easier Than Ever

One of the wonders of modern technology

Go to the computer or on your cell phone

Information on everything can be found

It takes a little work but well worth all the effort

We have come to a point in our lives

Where experience has such great value

We can see so many examples of people doing everything good and bad

So if we were to take up a hobby

We could easily find tips, tricks and an information goldmine

Saving us time and money

We could also find people with the same interests

We could also see some of the dangers and the accidents people have made

By watching videos and reading articles

Within minutes we can decide

To change our mind and do something else

Go with it and learn more than we ever knew

Years ago we relied on rumors and stories

Advice from friends and hunches

Often we got into trouble from doing what we shouldn't do

If only we could of known

That day has come

To make life easier and so much more fun

Nellieanna Sharing life's many highs and lows gives me a kick in the pants to push me in a direction I want to go. Then in time I see if I made the right choice and continue on if not I make any necessary changes to feel better. Thank you for all your interesting comments.

Yes, each of us has a life path we pursue, and we try to make our choices to best fit and serve those purposes. We must not judge each other.

Nellieanna Everyone has their own path. A learning life experience for those who understand. A fun ride for others. A quick trip for those are not careful. Out to water my plants and talk soon. Thank you for sharing.

Michael, well, probably they watch from whatever position they have and keep faith that most of us learned. They would be sad if some didn't. But they continue to offer their best mental and emotional nourishment. They know that it's like the adage, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink". Teachers have to accept a kind of statistical reality that some will refuse the offer. They get their own nourishment and rewards by knowing they offered the best water and that many of us drank it up eagerly and went on to offer it to others! SHELLS.

Nellieanna Isn't sad the teachers that helped us the most don't get to see their reward for all their hard work.Thank you for all your help.

Nellieanna I think my teachers were teaching patience and dedication to get the job done. Life can be a fast moving train. We have to learn to set our own pace and to enjoy . Thank so much.

Sounds like they were teaching spelling by Phonics (the sounds) when you were in school. It's logical but, then, English spelling is not always logical! haha. When I was in school, we first learned the so-called spelling rules, and then had to learn all the 'exceptions' to the rules, so we just mostly had to memorize the spelling of words. You're right that if you've learned to spell a word by it's sound and that is not really how it's spelled in the dictionary, it makes it difficult to look it up to learn all its meanings and definitions! That's another factor. Word either spelled alike or pronounced alike may have many different meanings and definitions.

Another thing is that one person might hear a sound as one letter and someone else might hear it as a different letter, especially the vowels.

But, yes, it is thrilling to go in search of what one needs and finding it, - or figuring it out, as the case may be. I love your illustration of that when opening the dictionary to the exactly right page! That IS truly great!

Nellieanna I remember spending what seemed like hours looking up words for spelling in English. We had to find the meaning and the definition. Flipping through the pages. I had mixed feelings. I struggled to find the word if I didn't spell the word right. We had to right them down by listening verbally to the word. The thrill of getting the answer.i remember twice opening the dictionary with one flip on the exact page that I needed. I was ecstatic ! How great is that. Thank you for reading and contributing your knowledge and insight.

I grew up long before the electronic short-cuts and inexhaustible sources of information at one's fingertips it's brought to us now.

But back then information was available for one's pursuit. That is the key. One really had to believe it was available and then pursue it, no matter how much time and effort it took. Very much as you describe pursuing information and guides online, one could persistently track it down in books and other written sources and then could study it deeply to make it one's own. That was almost as pleasurable as getting the answers and putting them to use! It was part of the fun.

Now I love the speed and advantage of clicking a button and finding most anything within moments, too. But I value the experience of having to research it diligently and prowl the library and bookstores to close in on the information needed. That effort gave it a lot of personal value. But however we find answers and learn, it has immense value - and it's fun, too.

How wonderful to be able to quickly look up a word, find the cast of a movie, find out any kind of information one wants at the click of a button or two!

As for people thinking, though- that is a personal response to whatever possibilities are out there. If they didn't or wouldn't have done the research to find out things before the technology came along, they probably won't fully appreciate and creatively use what is at their fingertips now.

I'll tell you that at present I do not like tablets or iPhones. I like my own old mobile which I just use to call hubby after I go shopping. No one else to call anyway. But I could never do without my PC that is for sure.

Perhaps people don't think precisely because they think all the answers are at the computer.
