Why I have stopped writing consistently?
When I started writing, I had no idea what to write about. I did not knew how this will help me in improving my overall income as my friends used to say but anyhow I started writing. When I started initially, I started answering questions at Hubpages.com, then soon I found about a site known as Indiastudychannel, and then I landed on boddunan.com. I joined other sites as well including expertscolumn.com and also created a few lenses on squidoo.com. I immersed myself into writing and till now I have written more than 895 articles at hubpages.com on different topics and categories. I started writing at boddunan and posted most of my long research articles here and made maximum money from this site at that period of time in August 2008. Besides these sites, I created several blogs at blogspot.com and build up a complete writing and social networking empire with more than 1500 friends at facebook.com, 1000+ followers at twitter.com, more than 800 friends on orkut, 1800+ followers at hubpages, and several online friends and fans sharing my articles via ping.fm.
But unfortunately after writing for more than 5 years, I have stopped writing consistently. Last, I wrote only 24 articles at hubpages in March 2012. I wrote only three articles in April, two in May, and three in June. I do not know why this is happening but seriously I have lost interest in writing might be due to less traffic and earnings I am receiving from online writing. There was once a time when I was earning double of what I am earning from my full-time job on a monthly basis from writing online but now it is less than half of what I earn professionally as an editor. Now I think that writing online is not as rewarding as we think but it is just like any other business where you need to put in loads of hard work to get great results initially but those are also on a temporary basis and die down with time.
The google algorithm updates like panda, penguins, and so on have hampered our growth as a writer. Now the situation is the more articles we write, the more we go down in search engine rankings and I believe it is not only happening with me but is happening with many other people at hubpages.com or at other online revenue sharing websites. This is the number one reason why I have stopped writing consistently. Now I think it is not worth putting so much of my hard work here as there are no great results. If this will be the trend, there will be lot of writers who will step back and look towards a different career because writing online is not as rewarding now as it has been mentioned by these revenue sharing portals online. There are several writers who are facing low self esteem and writers block because of very little interest in this endeavor. I hope staff and owners of these online revenue sharing portals are hearing this and are going to take some steps so that this field which was once a booming career does not tear down into bits and pieces.
