Why People Immigrate to United States of America
Immigration to U.S
Any land with good green pasture will always attract animals that feed on it. This kind of land as well attracts people that rare the animals to get the kind of food that their animals feed on. This two lines answer the question on why people immigrate to United States.
What is immigration and why do people from other countries emigrate to U.S.A? Immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country (Oxford Dictionaries). Immigration is the movement of people into another country or region to which they are not native in order to settle there, especially as permanent residents or future citizens (Wikipedia). Economic migration is defined as a choice to move to improve the standard of living by gaining a better paid job (BBC 2014).
United States is the world's 3rd or 4th-largest country by total area and third-largest by population (Wikipedia). In the year 1999, the number of persons that obtained legal permanent resident status in U.S.A was given as 188,317 ( according to U.S Department of Homeland Security: Fiscal Years 1920 to 2007). According to the same source, in 2007, the number of persons that obtained legal permanent resident status in U.S.A was recorded as 326,867. In 2012, 1,031,631 persons obtained Legal Permanent Resident Status (US Department of Homeland Security, Persons Obtaining Legal Permanent Resident Status: Fiscal Years 1950 to 2013). 76% of immigrants in U.SA say the government has become stricter on enforcing immigration laws since the September 11, 2001 attacks ("9/11"), and 24% report that they personally have experienced some or a great deal of discrimination (2009-A Place to Call Home: What Immigrants Say Now About Life in America). Family reunification accounts for approximately two-thirds of legal immigration to the US every year (Ramah McKay, Migration Policy Institute). In 2010 alone, the number of foreign born South-Koreans that lived in United States of America is estimated to 1,100,422 (Census and 2010 American Community Survey). In ascending order, the top five countries that live in United States of America as foreigners are Vietnam, Philippines, India, China, and Mexico (Census and American Community Survey).
United States of America commonly addressed as U.S.A has large inflow of people from different parts of the world every year. This is a country with about 318 million in population (Wikipedia). According to International Monetary Fund World Economic Outlook Database on April 2013, United States of America is the 7th richest country in the world (International Monetary Fund World Economic Outlook Database). In underdeveloped countries of the world, people that live there see United States as a second heaven. When people that live in timid locations of the world hear that any person from their location is in United States, they take the person in question as a mighty millionaire. They do not even care about how the person is succeeding over there, what kind of job he or she does or even how many times the person feeds in each day. They do not know that that their brother or sister may be working as a gatekeeper or farmer in U.S. Some of them who went there through cut-corners may get to U.S.A and get imprison and if care is not taken die in the prison.
Notwithstanding the kind of job any person that traveled from his poor country to a rich one like U.S.A, there are reasons why many want and make effort to be there. They are numerous and all of them cannot be exhausted in this piece of write-up. Some of the reasons that make people immigrate to United States of America are: good standard of living, good education, reduced corruption/transparency, better employment opportunity, higher currency value, wars or conflicts, and reduced poverty level.
Why do Foreigners Migrate to U.SA?
Good standard of living is why many leave their countries to United States of America. Nobody who loves his or her life will in any way like to stay in a place where there is suffering and economic hardship added together. People like easy life and you as a reader of this piece pray to find things easy in life instead of sweating very severely before you get that.
The expressways in United States of America are neat to the extent that people that come from underdeveloped countries of the world feel like to even sleep on them if not because of vehicles that pass through them. The expressways are built with construction materials that are of good quality. Can you compare the nature of U.S expressways with that of Zimbabwe? What of the road network of U.S.A with that of Congo? The truth is that there is large gap between the two instances.
In some parts of U.S cars are made available for the public. When this provision is compared with what is obtainable in some timid Asian countries, you will observe that any who migrates from those timid areas to U.S does not make any mistake at all. In some areas of the world you must sweat to buy your own car before you drive, but this puzzle is not obtainable in some parts if not all parts of United States of America.
The Reasons for Immigration to United States
Good education is another reason that makes many foreigners migrate to United States. There are problems with education sector of Africa. The governments of this continent do not understand the importance of skill acquisition through standard and educational practice. Notwithstanding that the students from this part of the world read much on how to achieve academic excellence, many fail because the education sector of this continent lacks practical backup. The system is filled with theories without proper practical background that will train the students on skill acquisition.
United States of America, U.S.A, has standard universities and colleges that are supported with good machines to enhance learning and knowledge impartation. Many whose education sector is not all that sound like some parts of Asia and Africa sponsor some of their students to travel to the World Power to learn more because the state is more organized and equipped. The world’s top tertiary institutions like Massachusetts Institute of Technology, California Institutes of Technology (Caltech), Harvard University, University of Chicago, and Stanford University are all located in United States of America.
There are a lot of students that leave their countries to the United States of America for study because of the advantages offered by this part of the world. Some who were not able to obtain their first degrees from universities in the United States work hard to see that they save enough money for their Masters Degree in U.SA. On daily basis foreigners troop into U.S for advanced study because they know that the country is a better platform for proper learning. Some rich and kind people in countries that lack standard education understand the importance of youth empowerment and that is why they sponsor some of their youths academically, to United States.
There is reduced corruption in United States of America at large. This transparency makes people to develop interest in the country and have hope that the possibility of succeeding in that area is high. Many businessmen have traveled from countries where there is high corruption rate to U.S because they know that by doing business in U.S they have higher tendency of succeeding in life.
Corruption brings backwardness in life. United States of America understood this and that is why the country is seriously fighting corruption because where there is transparency, there is light and progress. There are many agencies that were instituted by the government of the country to fight corruption. The corruption rate in countries like Africa is high and that is why many do the much they could to find themselves in U.S. In Africa for instance, the policemen in that location collect bribes from bus and car drivers in terms of money but this is not obtainable in United States. Though some countries indulge in corruption, there are causes of those corrupt practices.
Better employment opportunity is another reason why people like to travel to United States and even end all their life activities in that part of this universe. Though the country experience unemployment, their unemployment rate is better than that of many countries. If the major causes of unemployment in United State of America are five, the major causes of unemployment in another country is likely to be about twenty in number.
Comparing unemployment rate of United States of America with that of African and some Asian countries shows that there is a clear difference between them. Taking Nigeria as a case study, in 2010 about 46% of the country’s population were unemployed and the unemployment rate is of increasing rate in the country (World Bank Data 2010). Unemployment in Nigeria is one of the Challenges that are found in country (Uzochukwu Mike 2013: Challenges in Nigeria and Solutions on how to resolve them). In December 2013, the Statistics of Unemployed in the United States was put at about 6.7% of the population. This shows that there is less unemployment rate in United States to that of other countries.
Higher currency value is another factor that drives many to United States of America. The currency of U.S has good values than that of many other countries. There currency is in most cases used to judge the currencies of many other nations of the world. Some people believe to sale all the properties they have and use the money generated from the sales to travel to United States of America.
Why do some citizens’ sale the properties they have just for them to get visa and travel to United States? One of the reasons that make some persons take such decision is because they know that when they get there, irrespective of the work they do over there, they will make it in return. Many believe that even if they do minor jobs, by the time they exchange it to their own local currencies, it becomes a big cash to spend. There are many who are serving as mere “plate washers” in hotels in United States of America but are at the same time use the money they are paid for building of houses in their local areas. When they send the money to their people and the money is being converted to their national currencies, it becomes a “big money”.
Many have died in wars and conflicts and others will not like to see themselves being perceived as dead. Wars among countries have lead to rapid increase of immigrants into the United States of America. People are forced out of their countries into United States because of wars. The immigration of people into United States of America because of conflicts and crises has seriously added to the population of the Americans.
People from Arab countries and others immigrated to United States because of the wars that were going on in their locations. In the recent time, there is crisis between Palestine and Israel. As a result of this conflict many Palestinians and Israelite who are capable have find their ways into United States of America just for them to save their precious lives.
Another reason that makes many people to migrate to U.S is because U.S has reduced poverty level. In the survey carried out at by International Monetary Fund in 184 countries to determine the poorest and richest countries in the world in April 2013, United States of America is recorded the seventh richest country in the world just after Hong Kong. The country possessed Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $53,432.23. It is important to know that there are many causes of poverty and the effects.
Because the country is rich, many want to go over to become rich as well. When you establish something in United States of America, there is every possibility of succeeding in that project. Because of the rich characteristic of United States foreigners make serious effort to immigrate to the location.
This topic solely discuss about why people leave their locations to immigrate to United States of America. What is your plan? Do you feel like immigrating to United States if you are not from the location? Is your country poor and want to migrate to rich one like U.SA? Some of the reasons why foreigners immigrate to United States of America as discussed are good standard of living, good education, reduced corruption/transparency, better employment opportunity, higher currency value, wars or conflicts, and reduced poverty level.
