On Edge-Poem

Updated on July 14, 2017

Threekeys is a freelance writer and poet who loves burning candles; drinking cafe lattes; and standing under Moreton Bay Fig Trees.

..Lust feels like love until it is time to make a sacrifice..

On Edge...

he’s spruced beautifully

she’s fancy

dinner is served with anticipation

food soothes the antsy

truce is upheld

she balances a morsel on his lips of candy

he pulls his face foolishly

her thoughts echo that of a banshee

he waffles through his words of affection

One moment in time...
One moment in time... | Source

they’re both on edge like vigilantes

her pen trickles a love message in a nutshell

passing by his eyes languidly

the air feels like hot sludge under scrutiny

tension building and slithering, there needs a plan B

but tonight, is their occasion

slish splosh, they ker-chink their glassies

agile droplets of wine expelled

the rule is never being a sloth nasty

she lowers the zipper on her top saucily

he mutters a jealous taunt when she can’t see

knowledge from their past romantic passions

nervous movement of his silver watch that she cannot see

hums an annoying jingle in her head

she ingests her quip of ante

anger burns like windows aflamed ruefully

the panes hiss like that of a chimpanzee

the bridge collapsing under their tension

Love liberates. Lust binds.

the silent war begins with fancy

he grunts, as he dwells

and nods yes and no, with classy

her skin begins to crawl totally

she wants a conversation of happy

not the drip of silence persuasion

tragedy about us, lurks, we shall see

fear creaks the floorboards and spreads

do we rest or keep going in the Taxi?

Thank you for taking time to read my poem.

Don't get love and lust confused. Love is built on commitment and stability, but lust is highly inconsistent and doesn't last long

Enjoyed reading this fantastic poem. You made alive all the tension brewing there in the minds of the couple. Yes, lust is momentary like rain, love instead is a river.

You felt the rhythm and space. I am happy the poem took you on a travel beam. Thank you Mark for sharing your thoughts.

I think it is far to say we have all been" in that moment". Kind of your to share your thoughts and feelings, Ryan.

Hi Louise. Nice of you to visit and read my poem. I am glad you found it enjoyable. All the best to your loved ones.

Maybe we can have lovey lust, lusty love, love and lust, Eric:)

Very nicely done. I used to think "that is 'just' lust". Now I do not compare it to love. They are different. And that is OK.

Enjoyed the poem's sequential moments, the couple's edginess and uncertainty.

Definitely takes a turn towards the end. Beautifully written and such emotion expressed. I really like the flow of this poem as well. Great work. I think many people think they are in love when in fact they are just caught up in the moment. I have seen this with a few friends.

Yes, people all too often confuse love and lust. That's a beautifully written poem, thankyou. =)
