Will You Still Love Me?: A Poem

Updated on March 9, 2017
Source

Will you still love me when I’m older?

With my many wrinkles and hairs of gray

Will you still love me when I’m older?

When all my dreams have gone away

Will you still love me when I’m older?

Slowing down on a creaky porch swing

Will you still love me when I’m older?

When regrets give my heart a sting

Will you still love me when I’m older?

When I slip a frail hand in yours

Will you still love me when I’m older?

Until we knock on life’s final door?

This is a question we all ask - audibly or inaudibly - when we deeply love someone and it becomes clear we will likely spend the rest of our lives with them. Live is change and change is uncertainty.

May all your outcomes be sweet.

Oh wow, this poem definitely sinks into my heart greatly. Will you still love me...until we knock on life's final door? Wow, that is definitely a great thought to consider when you marry someone or if you love someone no matter what. It definitely makes you think if you truly love them...

I'm definitely sharing this, Ebower; great poetry and great thoughts went into this!

Tom Rubenoff: Yes, you put that so beautifully. Thanks for sharing. May God bless you in the days to come!

KDuBarry03: I'm glad this made you feel something of importance. I had not viewed it in that way before, but that's a valid point. We definitely should think about if we are willing to love someone for their entire life before marrying. Thank you!

What a beautiful poem and what a beautiful photo. Had my husband not passed away, I know we would still be loving each other in this life. As it is the love is still there , but on two different planes, yet I feel it just the same.

Like the way this poem repeats the question of whether you will still love me when I'm older, it brings home the message whilst Presenting the ineveitable imagery of old age. Voted up:-))
