"Wings" by Eric Wayne Flynn

Updated on September 30, 2015

"Wings"

Backwards; to the place we used to know

At the time we needed each other to survive

Back to when we used to feel something

When we bled our love in righteous rivers

With kind eyes and the simplest of gestures

Pain flees, as we must acknowledge it has been there all along, and it will come back again

Living inside ourselves; a harbinger of sin

Relinquish power and let it all go

Have faith in what you do not know

Once again, learning what it is to feel

The recollection of flesh; our past ways, a dark path it is to heal

In this moment of despair, I can attest to the chains that love can bring

The everlasting grip on the heart; the transitive property from the exchange of soul

Remember times when you saw the edge

And you felt you had life well within hand

You thought you knew what you now know, and you did

Because you were touched and untouched; all the same

You were blessed

You saw the edge, as you overlooked it

You were bathing in grace

Looking back, upon it all thus far

A righteous soul from a distant star

Belief

Believer

Believe

In this light, we are set apart, we the righteous

The Mystics; always misunderstood

And with these wings, we sing

And with these wings, we dance

And with these wings, we fly

High, upon it all thus far, with loving eyes for all on Earth

Righteous souls from a distant star

Thank you Word55, I appreciate the vist and the kind words; "super poems" that's an interesting perspective.

One of those rare super poems that takes you on under its wings. What a way to soar with the words. Quite reminiscent brother Eric.

Thank you very much Missy, I love the fact that some of my work is worthy of repeated readings (I liken it to when you have a new song you've never heard and you have to put it on repeat). Also, thanks for sharing my work.

This was a beautiful poem Eric. It's one you finish and read again, and then maybe one more time. I loved it, and now I will read it once more and love it again....:) Oh, and I will be sharing!

Thank you RJ, I felt as I was writing this, that I was in a different perspective for the time being, and if that is translated in an overall feel of the piece, well, i consider it a success, thanks again.

Thank you Manatita, it is a hard thing for me to come to the realization that I may be a "mystic" of some sort or the other... It is isolating at times, yet it pays off when you can help others find guidance. Once again, congratulations on your 33 year journey thus far.
