Broken....again

Updated on December 30, 2014

Twice Broken

We couldn't be together

Both of us knew it

But the heart wants

Without control or logic

I loved her then

I love her now

As long as I breathe

That will not change

She understood me

Like no one before or since

When we parted

I understood why

But that did not help

my broken heart

Years passed

And we functioned

She in her world

Me in mine

I loved her then

I still love her now

Occasionally we'd talk

I could never hide my love

She remained always

Cool and in control

It hurt me

Through to my soul

How could she

Seem so unfeeling

Finally, one day at last

She acknowledged the truth

I was the one

The love of her life

After so long

I felt at peace

As long as we could talk

And share our lives

As long as I knew

She still loved me

Though twenty miles apart

We would be together

Perhaps one day

I would see her and we would embrace

A hope and a dream

To touch her once again

But then suddenly

She moved far, far away

No chance to say goodbye

No chance for that final embrace

She'd done it again

But this time

So much worse than the first

She had shattered my heart

I loved her then

I still love her now

      therunningman . . .

with a beautiful piece like this, has it occurred to you that we all run from true love at one time or the other.

I voted up and away on this. I loved it. I read a lot of hubs, but just a few speak to me and this one did.

      Keep up the great work.
