Within that Sanctum

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

I wander the landscape of my mind,

echoes of my choices pinging,

and I see the confusion, the vast inequities of thought,

that muddy the clear and serene path of consideration.

How I hold myself back, the doubts amassed,

and how I lose grip of what lies within me,

and the force of who I long to be,

waiting with endless patience for my acceptance.

In darkness, the potential of light,

the possibility of transformation at it's zenith,

and I witness my own misgivings cutting me down,

the shadows and echoed voices of my demons.

Forever must I hold true what is me,

that essence that is no other,

and follow the course of my aspirations,

regardless of who or what challenges me.

For in my heart I know that life is a canvas empty,

and I with brush in hand colour it at will,

my own creative mind open to unencumbered expectation,

where even shadows cringe from light.

So the struggle continues, since the beginning of time,

and life squirms beneath the veil of human choices,

hoping for change and decisive minds,

to accept the power of the heart.

Life is a struggle, no matter what the circumstance, and it is only in that inner sanctum, we consider our choices and ultimately our destiny.

Bravo! Excellent poem with thought provoking depth that captures the reader immediately and draws one in to the poem. Very unique and cleverly placed words enhance this write that questions so much of life itself to the inner core of a being to the outside of one's journey which is a very complex topic to write about - Fantastic!
