Writing Online - Tweeting while Sleeping

Updated on September 27, 2011

Millions of people write online these days, but for different purposes. Most earn money from it. For people to make money online it’s important that they get traffic (visitors) to their websites or Blogs. You can get Traffic various ways, which include: Backlinking – Submitting links to Websites, sharing websites with friends and family etc

I use various ways to get traffic to my Websites – one of which includes Twitter. Twitter can be used for fun and some use it for Social Networking. I use it for both and also to acquire a lot of info. as well as learning new things. Twitter has Millions of Users and when you Tweet, some people might spot it if they follow you, others might stumble upon it if they are doing a search on a particular word.

I've been using Twitter for months and only recently came across something very useful. I can't believe I've only just discovered it. Some readers might already be aware of it: Hootsuite

One of the advantages of Hootsuite is that you can program what you want to tweet when you will not be available. Example, if you want to Tweet links twice an hour from 9 – 5pm or in the evenings when you are busy - you simply input the details and set the Schedule. They will automatically be tweeted at the time you set, while you are concentrating on other things or just relaxing.

A Poem I scheduled to Tweet (Top left)

Scheduling the Time to Tweet (middle)

After Time is set, click on Schedule and it will show a confirmation notice.
After Time is set, click on Schedule and it will show a confirmation notice.

Also, it doesn’t always have to be links. Example: this is a message I scheduled to Tweet this morning 16 May 2010. At the time it would Tweet, (about 9am) I was still sleeping. The message was:

Happy Sunday.

"With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts". Eleanor Roosevelt

A few other ways to get traffic to your site to increase Adsense.

  • Sign up at Xomba - simply post your links or use it as an additional writing site.
  • Sign up at Redgage- post your links, use it as an additional site and enter easy competitions. On Redgage, you also earn for simply posting photo’s. Both are effective and I have recently received my Redgage Visa Card with a pre-paid amount.
  • Share details of your Writing sites with friends and family.
  • Include links on the Auto Signature of your email (it will automatically show on all emails you send to people)

These are just a few. I don’t want to go into great detail as this Hub is about HootSuite.

I hope you find it useful. It’s FREE. Hootsuite

My Twitter

Also, feel free to Hollar at me: LadyelenaUK

It would be nice to meet you on Twitter.

Update: rasied an important question in the comments section of this Hub about the limit of posting links and his/her concern about it being seen as spamming. If you have similar thoughts, please refer to my response to the question in comments box. (The long one).

Is there anything else to learn on Twitter? Don't leave me Ignorant...

      Hi Pointblank

Once you type your tweet in the box (in hootsuite) click on the little box under it. A Calender will come up, with times by the side. The calender will have today's date, all you need to do is:

      * select a time.

      * click on schedule. (it will confirm scheduling)

      * It will tweet at the time you scheduled.

Schedule as many as you want. I use it everyday.

      See diagram above again.

Hi Suny, not a problem. I Tweet links (HP, Wordpress, Squidoo - everyone does. As long as it's done in moderation. i.e not 1 link every 10 minutes for 20hours of the day.

Example: In the mornings when I'm busy I set it to Send about 3 links in the morning and also a message to followers to say hello or to share an inspirational quote. Hope you've got the gist of it now.

      Good Luck.

HI Lady_E This is the coolest tool! I hope everybody sees your hub! I hadn't heard of it until now so thank YOU for sharing! We use Twitter and this is really neat! Heavy traffic times often interfere with real life time so this is one much-appreciated tool! BTW, I never heard back from Turbo Tax on using it for filing in the UK, so I went to the referral section and the people who use it both in the USA and the UK say that it's fine for the USA, but because of the rules of filing and the deadlines involved in the UK, it is better to not use this program in the UK. The good news is that the software company is working on this, but to date, no good solution has been found. Second, you could probably use it to create your paperwork, if you do it in time, then file by hand instead of trusting the program to file it on time for you.

      Hello LadyE,

Occasionally I use Twitter but always used it manually and found it difficult to stay on top of it. Wonderful information you share here. Thanks, I'm checking it out right now.

Recently I have joined Xomba, this site seems to have a great potential for adsense earning, because of its targeted ad placement.Redgage is certainly another good one. I think 'shetoldme' also a great site for bringing traffic to blogs-already a pr 5 site. I have found some great do-follow social bookmarking sites, soon I will write a hub sharing all the info about free traffic.thanks elena.

Lady E, thanks for the info. I've been trying to find an automated way to tweet, Hootsuite sounds perfect. Twitter can be good source of traffic if you use it wisely. One thing I found productive is to use hashtags (#life, #fitness etc.)It will send your tweet to other tweets using those hashtags. Also, look at trending topics on the right side of your home page, and incorporate the top Hashtags or words in your tweets. it does the same thing, except on a broader scale.

8 years ago from London, UK

Hello Psychicdog - good question. Even I didn't think about that. I doubt there is a limit. I send about 10 Tweets from Hootsuite in a day. 1 tweet per hour (10pm - 2am) because some people are on different Time zones and (9am - 2pm) one per hour, because I'm busy with my Job.

Also, I don't want to rattle my followers. lol. So, I don't set it to tweet round the clock 24hours. When I'm home I Tweet from the Web, not using Hootsuite.

I would advice people to use it in Moderation. I used to Follow someone who Tweeted 8 messages in one go every 10 minutes. lol. I couldn't see other Tweets so had to unfollow.

So in summary, don't over use it. 10 a day is reasonable. It doesn't always have to be your links. Sometimes, I post links of important/useful info found on the internet. E.g yesterday I tweeted "No Fly Zones in UK" from SKY News Website. Sometimes, I share other peoples blog links, Sometimes, it's just quotes and sometimes, it's what I'm doing or watching on TV and responding/sending messages to others. It's also good to have a good rapport with Followers - not just sending links. (so they know you well)

This must be my longest answer to a question on one of my Hubs. lol. You raised a good point though.

      Thanks for stopping. :)

** Thanks the Voice - glad you found it useful. Best Wishes.

** Thanks a lot Mike - it's very easy and straight forward. I hope you start seeing an increase in Traffic. Regards.

** Hello Fgual - it is a Time Saver. Hope you'll give it a try. Nice to read from you.

** Hi Susan, I hope you find it useful. I think there are others but this one seems pretty straightforward. Knowing a bit about you, another thing you'll find useful on it is, having short links. I know you have ebooks. So, if you wanted to tweet the link (ebook links are so long).

Note above: You'll see a box that says "shrink it". Put your long link in the box next to it and click the "shrink it" button. It will give you a nice short link. (still linking to your ebook - just shorter) Best Wishes.

** Hi TommyC - The first step would be to get a Twitter account. Second step - sign up to hootsuite. However, as you have recently joined, if you haven't got blogs elsewhere it's best to have some Hubs before hand. It can still be used in a Social way though - without posting links. Give me a shout if you need further assistance.

** Hi Hello Hello, my personal suggestion is not to post too many links. I post about 10 - 20 a day to my followers. Also, some people search on Topics and your link might come up. I'd like to help you out with this. Over the next week, I will post a few of your links on Twitter. Also send me you Twitter Profile link. As I tweet them, you'll know which ones I tweeted and can monitor the Traffic on your statistics. Hopefully, your followers will increase too. I'll start once I've received your Twitter profile. Regards.

      ** Cheers Pete. Best Wishes.

** Hi Anglnwu , that's the idea. It helps you use time more effectively. Regards.

Thank you, Lady_E, for a wonderful help. I posted a lot of links on Twitters but it doesn't get any results. I don't seem to get any followers. I had a few at the beginning where they sent me an email but I didn't know if I had to do something witn it. I emailed twitters but never got an answer. I posted about over 200 on it.
