Writing on the highway ...........poem

Updated on January 29, 2015

It may be a day of rain on the two lane
or one of sun blistering through
the windshield
yet I have been known to
stop along the way

It may be a sad reminder of music
from the speakers
a snide remark by some stranger
that set's me off
yet I have been known to
stop along the way

Could it be the call of the pen
or visions from a bored mind
can it be simply the bare pages
waiting for change
or the scent of ink

Before I realize it I have pulled
into a quiet lane and shut down
letting the wind in the trees
through a rolled down window
direct my thoughts
and I begin to write

And no one knows this but
towards the end of a day
or on a soft free spirited
summer morning
I have been known to
stop along the way

For some reason that old highway calls and when it does, for some odd reason that is the best time to write. I can't figure it out, but your poem sure does help. Beautifully written my friend.

I love to know what happens in a poet's soul. I enjoy this. Thanks for sharing.

I liked your poetry. Thoughts can come at just about any time of day or night whether on the road or not. Traveling however does give one more grist for the mill so to speak.

Voted up and awesome. Made me want to head out to the open highway and ride like the wind. Love this and passing it on.
