You Forced Me To Run: A Poem

Updated on October 10, 2012

My freedom of choice was taken from me

You made me do what I least wanted to

Despite my attempts to stay planted and rooted

You forced me to run...

Onlookers would know that resistance was futile

My neighbours could tell it was not what I hoped

Time froze still as I fought with my senses

But you forced me to run....

I knew I should turn in the other direction

And go on my way like I normally would do

And yet I was drawn by a deep sense of reason

You forced me to run...

The chill of the air had me wrapped up and cosy

I should have just got in my car and drove off

But to leave you like that so alone and so helpless

Just forced me to run...

So I took off with speed on the way you had ventured

Hoping to capture you safe in my arms

Hoping to bring you back home to your refuge

I started to run...

I never gave thought to the onlookers watching

I chased and I hustled to reach you in time

I know I looked foolish but you were my purpose

You forced me to run...

I gasped as I reached you and clasped you close to me

The gathering crowd cheered with hearty applause

They knew, like I did, that I just could not leave you

It was right that I run...

I held you so tight as we retraced me steps home

Back to the place where it all had began

I carefully placed you in the safe place you'd come from the lid on my new garbage can.

Twas a very windy morning today!

I knew the twist was coming, but I couldn't predict what it would be. Just brilliant. Voted up, awesome, shared, the whole bit. You're a great writer.

If I hadn't read your profile and your forum post, I would have been fooled, too. I know a little bit about police humor :-) I actually suspected cat or puppy so it was a pleasant surprise. Voted up and funny.

LOL, you had me going there really good on this one. Excellent and oh so funny - at the end!!! You clever one you. Initially, I thought, oh what a coward running away, but then I realized you were running towards, and even before I read about the applause, I was saying in my mind hooray!!! Jokes on me . . . you got us all good on this one. Voted Way up

God bless. In His Love, Faith Reaper

@ ImKarn23 - ouch.... harsh. Trust me, I know when I screw up, mostly due to the frequency of it.... after all I AM a guy so it comes with the Now, when it comes to my wife, I'd run until my body gave out for her.

      Thanks for stopping by...

it was sooo beautiful - a man who actually knew he'd screwed up before it was too late..

but - alas - no such luck!

Thanks for the drama and smile. I like the lid for my garbage can because if you do not keep it wasp or cats start coming around.

Waaaaaaaa, you got me running too and to a lid of a garbage can, that was really a twisted surprise there! What a chase! I love it. Nice surprise at the end. Funny, awesome, and interesting.

Now, petenali, put a heavy rock on top of the lid. But it is one way or the other, good to run, eh!
