You Planned Another Escape

Updated on May 23, 2013

Surprised Again

It was 7:30 at night

The weather has been lousy all day

But I didn't think you'd run away

I was in for the evening watching t.v.

Then I remembered I didn't get the mail

Walking by our cat who was fast asleep

I threw on my sneakers and said I won't need a jacket

So I opened our side door

As soon as I did our cat scooted out

What....where did you come from I instantly thought

When I walked by you your eyes were closed

All within five seconds you were out the door

It was raining and as I followed you out

Off the deck down the stairs making a break for it

I had to think fast

So I yelled and stepped closer to the car

If she goes under the car she will stay in the middle

Playing a game of catch me if you can

Then when she sees the opportunity

She makes a break for it across the lawn

You can see I have done this before

This is not the first time she has pulled this stunt

Trying to spook her in the other direction

It worked as she made a break for it under the front stairs

Now she has two choices underneath where I can't get her

Across the yard to the neighbors

If she stops because she is unfamiliar with the front bushes I can get her

If she keeps going to the neighbors trees she will have outsmarted me

I have to make sure I don't take my eyes off of her

I can call her name many times she won't come

She will pick up every scent

She will be on the hunt

For the neighbors cat

My cat is an indoor cat and craves the outdoors

I have had an outdoor cat before and he got hit by a car

The road is far enough away but cats go where they want to go

My wife and I both decided this cat would be an indoor cat only

Now wet and getting more wet

I have to capture my cat

I have to make sure if she makes the slightest mistake or stops for any reason

I have to grab her by the back of her neck and fast

She will lash back when she is outside

Unsure of where she is at

She certainly doesn't mean it

She's just a cat

Cute and adorable when she wants to be

I know it gets dark in about a half hour

My chances go from small to slim

Then she either has to come home or she could get easily lost

So instead of panicing

I tried to use cat psychology

Hear Charlette as I put my hand towards the ground

Moving my hand fast back and forth trying to get her attention

She stopped and stared

Not trying to alarm her any more than she already is

I tried to coax her close enough to grab her

Still out of my reach

Feeling safe under the front porch

I had to entice her out

So again I called her name

She started to move her front paws reluctantly forward

In slow motion

Look what we have here

As she took one step forward

This was my only shot

Make it a good one

So I did a quick grab and snatch

I had her stunned and totally by surprise

I hurried along into the house and dropped her to the floor

As I quickly closed the door with my foot

She looked back at me to say What,,,,What did I do...

More relieved than mad I looked at her with stern eyes

She instantly came over to me and rubbed her leg against mine

How can anyone not love a cat that has no regrets at any time

I thought I should scold her but what good would that do

She hasn't listened when we yelled at her before

She is an animal and craves the wild

I chose to love her and hug her

Remembering next time

I will keep a careful eye

So there will be no lost or missing cat

I gave my cat a new nickname

As she quietly took a few bites of her food

Hopped up on her favorite chair and closed her eyes for a nap

I took three Motrin because I twisted my back

Running down the stairs and almost fallling after her

Lesson for today

When you think you have a dull and dreary day at best

Think again it is when Slick tricked you and tried to get away

Her only reason for leaving is finding a new place to play

Now both home safe and sound

Not a word to my wife who left earlier with a neighbor

She would tell me you know to watch her

I tell you all the time

When will you listen

When she is gone and we can't find her

Then what we do ?

I tell her... you worry too much and you make a big thing about nothing

Charlette is safe

I will give her a few cat treats and we both can laugh

Our lilttle secret is safe with me

As I hear more loud thunder in a distance and outside begins to downpour

The phone rings and it's my wife

She will be home in a little bit

Any mail she asks

No I didn't get it

Don't worry I am sure nothing important

See ya at home bye

That was a close call

As I smile and grin

Another day of a writer

Who writes about his notorious cat names Slick

writinglover I found mean cats act up because they lack love. They are lashing out.I pamper mine with extra love and and it helps but it is alot of work and time. The progress is slow and maybe my cat will just get old and too tired to cause trouble before I finish trying to change my cat to a nicer and more friendly one.My cat is only young and just has a mean streak the size of the Grand Cayon when she gets in her moods.Maybe a better choice would be to keep your distance.(lol)Thanx so much for commenting and sharing.

Well, my grandmother's cat started out as a feral cat. When I first lived with the cat he actually tried to bite me in the butt. LOL! My grandparents should have named him Karma. He's calmed down, but he still has a tendency to be a bit wild. :D

writinglover You took the time to read my story that was very nice.I will try to bring out the cat in you .It could take awhile.Maybe you had one bad experience or maybe you think cats are scarey or something.Depending on the type of cat they can be friendly or a pain in the butt. They are funny and help pass the time away.Thanx so much for visiting.

My grandmother's cat is like that. Thankfully, he gets homesick easily and comes crawling back home (after a few hours). I'm not much of a cat person, but my grandma is so I keep my thoughts about the cat to myself. LOL. Voted it up funny and awesome!

Voted up and funny. This was an incredible and delightful tale. We're lucky with our cat Sid. We live in the suburbs and here things are different than on you side of the ocean. Sid has a whole garden to explore and in the good weather we have the window open for him. His favorite thing to do is to climb trees. Glad you caught Slick and that she's home and alright. Hope you and your family have a great Memorial Day weekend.

Great cat story - what fascinating creatures they are - they know so much. Love the way you agonised and then 'got away with it' Such fun.

My cats belonged with us when the children were younger and are long gone - they hold lovely memoreis of escapades similar to yours. Enjoyed reading this - thank you -

kidscrafts Cats have so many interesting habits.I love to read about other cats who drive their owners crazy too.So far a nice quiet night and Charlette decided to sleep it off.Kathryn Stratford I see Midnite lived up to her name.I think both of our cats are spoiled.Thanx so much for reading and sharing.Never a boring day with a cat in the house.

Cats can be very slick! When I lived in Virginia, I had three indoor cats. I was careful not to let them out. But one day my little cat Midnite slipped between my legs as I had the door open briefly, and I couldn't catch her. Fortunately, she came home a little over 1 day later. She wasn't hurt, but she was pregnant. At least it explained why she was so desperate to get out!

I like having indoor cats, because it is safer. But at the same time, I can understand how they would not want to be cooped up. Freedom is great! But I'm sure some cats have no idea how good they have it- a cozy house, food, and love.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Ah! Those darn cats.... we love them even if they play tricks on us ;-) I can totally understand that you want to keep your cat indoor. The mother of one of my cats (she was a neighbours cat) was killed in front of my house and we decided also that our cats would be indoor cats.

I hope that Slick-Charlette will not spill the beans on you when your wife comes back ;-)
