Young Emmett Till (Revisited)

Updated on February 3, 2015

Young Emmett Till,

I hear you still,

Down in the darkness,

Moving around;

For almost sixty years now,

You've been in the ground,

'Tis but time you settle down--

They wrung your neck--

That much is true,

On that long-ago night,

In fifty-five, poor you!

Just a boy,

Before his prime,

But the world's moved on now,

And hanging's a crime.

Young Emmett Till,

We hear you still,

Crying in the darkness,

Breaking the silence,

We hear you still,

Young Emmett Till...
