Your Eyes--A Haiku

Updated on November 6, 2015
Lisawilliamsj profile image

Lisa is a substitute teacher who studies English Literature. She lives to write and is following her dream of becoming a professor.

I wrote this poem in a time of my life, that all I wanted was someone to really see me. I wanted this kind of love so bad. Unfortunately, the one that I was with was the one causing me the anxiety, sadness, fear, and pain. The exciting thing is that dreams can come true! I have a new fiance, who has helped me change my life. I must have wrote him into reality, because this is exactly how I feel when I am with him.

Your eyes follow me

As I move across the room

Growing more distant

You reach out your hand

Our fingertips barely touch

Your eyes cannot lie

Lost inside myself

Your eyes try to draw me out

You pull me closer

The past seems to fade

It is only me and you

I am free for now

You draw me closer

This is where I want to be

All the pain is gone

Your eyes take me in

Your fingers caress my face

Our lips lightly touch

You smile down at me

Whispering “hey, welcome back”

I’m no longer scared

Sure Lisa...I can't say though how it turns out to be.

And you must really try yourself at haikus and free verse...your spontaneity it a gift.

Well you are doing a great job. I have learned, talking to different people who write, sometimes focus actually hinders some peoples creative process. I think I might try my hand at free verse later today or tomorrow. when you post one that rhymes let me know; I can't wait to read it!

See that's what I was trying to point out...'focus'...and that's what I'm experimenting with now.

When I started off I wanted to be free to express out. Of course my first few poems turned to be sitters...but I gradually learnt to let myself flow in coherence. And I'm still learning.

I just read some of your poetry and it is fantastic! I do not think free verse is something I will try quite yet, I think that the boundaries help me focus my thoughts! =)

I personally believe anything that makes you feels free, has always got to be beautiful. 'Rhyme' sets boundaries, encases our thought process.

Quite oppositely, I started off with free verse...and have begun 'rhyme' poetry recently, as an experiment to test myself.

Ashish04josi, When I started writing poetry I was under the impression that it has to rhyme. I have tried very hard to break this habit but I still find myself rhyming unintentionally. I found that since a Haiku has its own restrictions it seems to free me from the rhyming cycle. So, I plan on writing many more! =) Thank you for your kind comment.
