Traveling Gypsy

I see the wormhole starting to form way ahead of me.

My old Gypsy bones, they ache and they rattle

My stars unaligned, spell of new fortune

Resist not my child, the gods often prattle

Camp musicians they fire a wild mystic tune

So I light the incense, feel the beat of the music

And dance

Spread open wide, my magic traveling bag

I just dance

With my tambourine and bells round my hips

I just dance

Hair flowing long, smile on my face

I just dance

Tossing my wares into that red velvet purse

Clearing the clutter from out of the space

Take every blessing, dismiss every curse

Funny what madness time can erase

So I light the candles, feel the heat of the spirits

And dance

Spread my arms open wide, twirling round in space

I just dance

Burning sweet sage, drumming old ghosts away

I just dance

Dress catching the air, smile on my face

I just dance

My journals, notes, the letters, and spells

My pictures and memories of years gone by

All secrets that my heart has kept well

Will stay with me til the day that I die

So I close my bags, feel the energy of this space

And I dance

Spread my heart open wide, toward my new place

I just dance

Dousing these flames, taking old ghosts away

I just dance

I bow to this place, walk away with a smile on my face

As I dance away…

My wife is the dancing gypsy. Ok, not a gypsy maybe, but a Latina dancer, for sure!

      Beautiful work!

@Erin I learned a few words and loved the poem. I am not good at dancing but certainly love the Gypsy life style and love to see people dancing with full of energy putting rest of the world aside.

Since poem is on dance. Allow me to talk about LORD SHIVA(The Lord of Dance--The most worshiped God)in Hinduism. He is a cosmic dancer who performs his divine dance to destroy a weary universe and make preparations to start the process of creation. In addition he too is said to be living in HIMALAYA with his wife PARVATI.

I think its a great way to know our oneness. And it keeps us healthy.

So keep Dancing, keep hubbing and teach me a few steps as well :-)

      babasanju,

My favorite band Kiva has a few songs that I love to dance to about Shiva and Parvati! They have lots of songs that are great for dancing - they are a local band that celebrates all religions though, its been so long since I've seen them. You can hear parts of their songs if you want to on kivasong.com

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting, I love when you stop by to teach us more about Hinduism and your culture. Brightest Blessings my friend!

Ruby, my sister - thanks so much, its been a while since I've written any poetry hasn't it? Yes the gypsy came back and she's dancing - that's a good thing. I haven't danced since ...Woodstock LOL :) Love ya

ahorseback, I would love to come dancing into Ireland, but those are the world's greatest dancers, in my opinion...one of my best friends does that Irish dancing and I love to watch it! As for traveling to dance my way into your world...wow! was that you in my dreams last night? brightest blessings!

Erin - Voted up and beautiful! I have often envisioned what it would be like to be a beautiful gypsy, carefree and magical, and this poem sums it up. Quite breathtaking...you have a knack for poetry! (By the way, I just recently wrote a whole hub on gypsies and their culture).

      Hello Kitty! (no pun intended)

thank you so much for visiting! the life of a gypsy was hard - not always so beautiful and magical and musical, but I try to capture that spirit. I will go and read your hub which I'm sure is more about the day to day life of gypsies today? Everything of course, is all in how you look at it, our lives can be a burden, plain, lovely or magical - its all in how we choose to frame them! I choose to take mine and make it into a never ending fairy tale which I am dancing through. Its hard enough as it is...to live it. Why not string your life together as a series of adventures and dance from one to the other?

      brightest blessings!

      ahorseback,

I haven't seen it, but I will certainly look for it! Thanks for the recommendation. I last encountered real gypsies when I was over in Europe in Bavaria. Nothing like my poems and fairytales by day - just trying to feed their families. They'd go to the fields after the big machinery had been through and see what they could take home. I would have loved to stop and talk with them but there were rumors of highway robberies and I didn't speak the language. I have a friend from Hungary who has told me stories about the gypsies there too. I find it tragic but no less tragic than what we have going on in our own poor towns all across the US.

Families who follow work, food, shelter but fly under the radar as they tend to stay away from the cities and therefore don't benefit from any of those things.

I don't know, I think I'll stick to my romantic view, it seems to suit me best, as I feel I'm a throwback from the fouteenth century anyway! xoxo

Beautifully lyrical and yet profound in wisdom. This dancing gypsy teaches me to 'clear the clutter, take every blessing and dismiss every curse' - what wonderful, wise words, Erin.

Love the poem and especially loved the beginning :

I see the wormhole starting to form way ahead of me.

you are mystical, beautiful and inspiring Gypsy. Long may you Dance.

..well I left an adoring comment for you on my new one MY OTHER DEATH ....and yes I have missed you - you went away on a road trip is that right? Well I would certainly like to dance with your Erin after reading something as free and spontaneous and senuous as this but then again I always knew that of you - and thank you for being in my hub life over the past year - you are a good friend and an esteemed colleague - and don't forget to check out my reply to your comment - I am much too shy to repeat it again here. lake erie time 10:43pm

I'm preparing for a vacation to AZ in sept and I'm so looking forward to the Red Rocks and the Grand Canyon and desert sunsets!m...I feel the need for a tropical vacation but I'm afraid that one will have to wait - I just don't seem to have the time or a vacation buddy at the moment and I just hate traveling alone!

Epi, you're not shy! Not in your writing, nor in your comments! I shall go by your hub again....we're playing tag...and you're it!
