_you_

Updated on June 18, 2013

I just wanted to

just needed to

but I couldn't

hold onto you

and all I ever wanted

was for you to love me
forever

hitch hiking down memory lane

every detour wound in highlight blonde

lost again upon trailing eyes of green

but the buried treasure

lied under the years

and every drop of sweat

turned into tears

for a moment that lasted forever

the keys played softly

as your fingertips

brushed my skin so lightly

escaping Venus and Mars

two beating hearts became our playground

but your hands
were too young

and the other side of the pond

was mistaken for a favorite color

I just wanted to

I just needed to

you know all I ever wanted

was you

I held onto the rope

as every string of hope frayed

when you walked away

lost in another realm of hell

the fires raged

and the shadows fell

leaving me

an empty shell

but you couldn't hear me

I couldn't hear myself

anymore

it took me awhile

for you took my heart

but not all of it

just most of it

the part that danced with snow angels

the corner that sailed oceans

little pieces of milk chocolate and caramel

and everything under the christmas tree

you took the best from me

is it no wonder

love cannot find me

and all I ever wanted

all I ever needed

was you

I just wanted to

I just needed to

you

Beautiful poem! I believe love will find you again and/or you will find love. I love the lines:

"the part that dance with snow angels

      the corner that sailed oceans

little pieces of milk chocolate and caramel

and everything under the Christmas tree"

These are beautiful images and make your point so well. We do survive lost loves and broken hearts, although at the time, we think we never will.

Voted up and beautiful. Such lovely sentiments. Came just at a time when it reminded me of my friend's lose. She recontacted with an old friend who had MS. They would spend hours on the phone and she was thinking of visiting. He just passed away and it was too late to reconnect. Passing this on.
