A Street Cat Named Bob: The Cat Who Goes Busking

Updated on November 18, 2015

Bob the Street Cat

A Street Cat Named Bob: An Incredible Story of One Cat and His Human on the Streets of London

A street cat named bob is a beautiful and incredibly inspiring story of the journey two lonely souls fighting for survival on the streets of London. It shows how each changed the others lives for the better.

This moving story of love and friendship touches the hearts of everyone who hears it.

James saved Bobs life when he was injured by a fox and his injury turned bad. Bob rewarded James by wanting to stay with him. James had enough problems and tried to get Bob to go, but as all cat "owners" know the cat always gets what it wants and now James wouldn't be parted with Bob for anything in the world!

Bob Doing His Famous High Fives - You Can Share in James and Bobs Story

I'm not one to get caught up in celebrities, but I admit I have here, this is as much a fan page as anything. You can share in Bob and James's story here, or you can download the Kindle story or buy the whole story on Amazon. Also you can join their Facebook or Twitter pages.

If you are really lucky you can meet them, they busk in Covent Garden London.

Lens of The Day

Thank you to everyone for your lovely comments on LOTD. Thank you to the lady who put this lens up for being undervalued and to the person who recommended and gave it LOTD. It was a lovely surprise.

Why I Want to Read A Street Cat Named Bob

And Why I haven't Yet

Simply because I love this story. I think it is the most inspirational story I have heard so a long time. It is the story of unconditional love and it shows just how much and animal can influence our lives and how important they are. Of course Bob is extra smart and extra special due to their unusual circumstances.

I first discovered Bob by accident when my sister phoned up and told me all about him being on the news then didn't think anything more of it. It wasn't until I saw my sisters Christmas list with a Kindle edition of Bob on it that it really struck me. I am the cat person, if my sister had the book on her wish list then it must be a very special story indeed!

I got her to tell me all about it again. The funny thing was that although she knew all about it she still wanted to read the book. Now I want to too. In view of how difficult I find it to write this page it might be a while, I had enough trouble reading Norton (another super smart cat) without emotional overwhelm. In spite of that I am a huge fan of Bob who is a cat on a mission. This one cat is changing attitudes and has saved his owners life and brought him meaning. Anyone who doesn't think cats are important should read all about Bob and his human James.

Sharing A Street Cat Named Bob With the World

With thanks to Vanessa Scott for her kind permission to use her lovely picture of her cat Boaz laying on A Street Cat Named Bob Book.

Lots of people share their pictures of their cats and Bob on Bob and James Facebook Page. Here Boaz another beautiful ginger cat sleeps soundly on the book.

Pictures of Bob and James's book also come in from all over the world, everywhere from Russia to New York. Where are you in the world?

James and Bob On Homelessness and Their Friendship

Bob and James are now famous and both sign their books at book signings. Bob is in his element as he has all the attention any cat could possibly desire.

James on life on the streets before and after the arrival of Bob and how he has recovered from drugs and turned his downward spiral into an upward one.

James and Bob Playing

All cats are clever, however occasionally you get one that is extra smart and that is Bob. He does high fives and sits on James's shoulder while they journey to their place of work in Covent Garden. He just sits there when being interviewed or when book signing. I admit I read that Norton did this but actually seeing it is amazing. Bob wears a leash - willingly! How many cats will do that. You might get away with it if you start them off young but Bob was a stray street cat.

A day in the lives of James and Bob. And Bob signing autographs of his book!

Bob's New Fashion Trend

You might have noticed that Bob often wears scarves. He has these knitted for him by his fans who like to make sure he is warm while he is busking with James.

Bob has started a new fashion trend as I have seen several other cats wearing scarves. Bob wears his while he is with his human James so he is safe. Just be careful as if they get caught they could be a strangle hazard.

How Bob Changed the World on Person at a Time

Many people have said that reading this book has changed their lives and that they no longer pass homeless people by without "seeing" them. They are no longer afraid as James and Bob have put a face on homelessness and taken away their fear.

James saved Bob then Bob saved James.

I Finally Read It Yay!

Well I finally read the book. I don't quite know what to say really. It is a simply written straight forward book. Yet it captured my heart. It is one of the most endearing stories I have ever read. I made it to about halfway though before welling up and by then end I just crumpled.

A true story of hope and absolute complete unconditional love and an incredible journey from hopelessness into a bright future.

If anyone has any doubt as to if a cat can love it's owner then read this.

And without doubt Bob is a very intelligent cat. James reminds me of the saying a diamond in the rough. His life experiences have given him rough edges yet underneath he has a pure heart.

I wish both Bob and James all the best and will be reading the sequel (complete with hankies).

Bob is the Best

If you look after a cat that is sick or injured and nurse it back to health, the cat will love you for life. It will give you its heart - as Bob did. Who said cats are not loyal?

I imagine James and Bob to be the faces of countless millions. Thank you for calling attention to this. I suspect we, as a collective, are becoming desensitized to the plight of the homeless. According to a recent article I read, the vast majority of Americans are only one paycheck away from being homeless. This needs to stay in our attention.
