Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series

Updated on October 29, 2014

The Anita Blake Book Series

The Anita Blake novels feature Anita as a hard-boiled detective with a twist. The crimes she solves deal with the preternatural and the supernatural. As a vampire hunter and executioner, she hunts vampires and other supernatural or magical beings (think werewolves, witches, and zombies) that have used their power to hurt humans. Armed with a gun, knives, and a few supernatural powers of her own, Anita Blake is one tough heroine.

The Anita Blake series is my favorite set of vampire books. Within the Anita Blake novels, author Laurell K Hamilton has created a fascinating and exciting world filled with magic and supernatural creatures. It is a fun series offering wonderful characters, a thrilling storyline, and fantastic reading enjoyment. I absolutely love Anita Blake and it is my hope that this page will introduce you to a new favorite as well.

On this hub, you will find an overview of Anita Blake, a list on all the ABVH books in the series, a description for each novel, and great links to sites where you can find out more about Anita Blake. I have also included lots of Anita Blake quotes, reader polls, and fun quizzes for your entertainment and participation.

I hope you will enjoy reading about Anita Blake here and that you will let me know what you think by leaving a comment in the guest book when you are done. Happy Reading!

Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter

Anita Blake Overview

Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series is an alternate reality storyline, set in modern day Saint Louis, where vampires are not only real, they are legal citizens. They have families, jobs, and hobbies. Many of them own businesses, like Jean Claude, Master of the City. He owns several of the popular night clubs in town, including Guilty Pleasures and Danse Macabre.

Anita Blake is a federal marshal and vampire hunter. Her home base is Missouri, but as a vampire executioner, her badge allows her to cross state lines to catch the supernatural bad guys. There is no way to keep a vampire in jail, so if there is a vampire gone bad, it is Anita's job to take care of him, by stake, gun, or whatever means she deems necessary.

Also, Anita is a paid consultant for the police, or more specifically, the Regional Preternatural Investigation Team (RPIT or Rip It for short). They employ her knowledge of the supernatural to catch the monsters that are preying on humans, be it zombies, ghouls, lycanthropes (shapeshifters), or vampires.

Anita is also an animator with Animators Inc, meaning she can raise the dead. When animated, the dead are known as zombies. They are raised to verify wills, answer questions as witnesses in trials, etc. Anita raises the zombie, usually with judge, lawyers, and even a court reporter present, and when their business with the deceased is done, she puts him or her back to rest.

Along with her busy work schedule, Anita must also contend with her love life. With vampires, werewolves, and other male supernatural creatures all wanting her attention what is a girl to do?

This series is a sensational thrill and these are just a few of the reasons why I love Anita Blake. I highly recommend the Anita books to anyone who enjoys a few thrills and chills in their reading. The series is very witty and entertaining, and you will fall in love all with the wonderful characters involved in Anita's world.

Content Warning: While the Anita Blake series began with the storyline portraying mild sexual content, the latter half of the books contain very explicit scenes and language. This series is meant for mature audiences only. I would not recommend the Anita Blake books to any young adult or teen readers.

Note: Yes, that is Selma Hyeck you are seeing in the pictures. I think she would make a fantastic Anita Blake, don't you?

There's nothing like ruining the calm of a one-hundred-year old vampire to boost a girl's morale.

My Introduction to Anita Blake

My cousin is responsible for my obsession with the Anita Blake series. I admit it, it's all her fault! :) We share a love of reading (and reading taste) and we always check out the new additions to each other's bookshelves when we visit.

About 10 years ago, I was at her house and spotted a book in her collection called Club Vampyre. I have always had a thing for vampire stories, so I had to check it out. Being the great friend and cousin that she is, she let me borrow it. I took the book home and discovered the exciting world of Anita Blake.

To my surprise and enjoyment, Club Vampyre was actually three books in one - Guilty Pleasures, The Laughing Corpse, and Circus of the Damned. And while I did not know it at the time, they are the first three novels in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series.

From the first chapter of Guilty Pleasures, I was caught up in Anita's world. I was enthralled. This was the type of novels that I had been searching for since my love of horror fiction began. By the time I had finished Circus of the Damned, I was thoroughly obsessed, and Laurell K Hamilton had gained a devoted fan.

I have since read the entire series and now order each new addition as soon as they are released. The Anita Blake Series is one of my favorite story lines and I hope you will enjoy it as well. There's lots more Anita Blake stuff on this page, so keep reading for more Anita fun.

Anita Blake Novels

Guilty Pleasures

A serial killer is murdering vampires and Nikolaos, Master of the City wants Anita Blake to solve the crime. Of course, Anita refuses. She doesn't work for bloodsuckers... but the vampires have a few tricks up their sleeve. At a bachelorette party for Anita's best friend Cassandra, a vampire bespells Cassandra. To break the spell and save her friend, Anita agrees to find the serial killer.

Anita is not only working for the vampires. The police have called her in as well. Some terrible creatures are slaughtering humans in there own homes. Anita must solve the crime before more people lose their lives, but when she is lured to a cemetery, she finds the monsters waiting for her - and their master has ordered her death.

They be crazier than we are.

The Laughing Corpse

Millionaire Harold Gaynor wants to hire Anita Blake to raise a 283 year old corpse. Of course this kind or animation would require a white goat - a human sacrifice. Anita doesn't do human sacrifice, but Harold does not want to take no for an answer.

If that wasn't bad enough Dominga Salvador wants Anita to partner with her in the zombie business, but it involves keeping the human soul trapped inside the dead body. Anita wants nothing to do with Dominga or her work, but when the voodoo queen sends something foul and rotting in her window, it is all Anita can do to survive.

You don't volunteer for slugfests with vampires. It shortens your life expectancy.

Circus of the Damned

A group of vampires are murdering humans. That's nothing unusual, but they are killing them with multiple bites and draining them of blood. They will rise as vampires, but they will rise as beasts - animalistic vampires that will slaughter everything in their path.

As if that wasn't enough trouble, a master vampire has come to town and wants to make Anita his human servant. New Master of the City, Jean-Claude, wants to mark Anita to keep her safe, but Anita would rather die than become a slave to any vampire. With two master vamps fighting for Anita's soul, an undead war has begun.

Vampires were always either trying to kill me, or own me. God, I hated being popular.

The Lunatic Cafe

Members of the local werewolf pack have gone missing. Not only that, but other shapeshifter groups have lost members as well. They need Anita's help to find their family and friends. Anita must use her contacts with the police and the preternatural community to solve this one.

With all the missing shapeshifters and the different patterns, Anita realizes she may have more trouble than she thought tracking them all down. When the clues finally fall into place, it is too late. Anita and her friends are captured and Anita is locked in a cage with a brand new werewolf - on the night of the full moon.

I talk to myself everyone once in a while. Give myself very good advice. Sometimes I even take it.

Bloody Bones

Anita Blake has been called to Branson, Missouri to raise a family graveyard. There is a land dispute between two families and she must raise the corpses to find out who owns the land before a planned resort can be built. It all seems routine at first.

Then Anita is called to a murder in a nearby Missouri. Her zombie raising has been put on hold, because three teenage boys have been killed by preternatural means. Anita discovers that the land in question is being closely guarded for a reason. It had been holding a powerful creature at bay for centuries - and now that creature has been released and the slaughter has begun.

Never throw stones if you think they're going to come back and hit you.

The Killing Dance

Bounty hunter and assassin, Edward, calls Anita with bad news. He has been offered a contract on Anita's life. Someone wants her dead and no price is too high. While Edward stalls with his answer, local muscle has been hired to take care of the problem. With two attempts on her life, Anita goes into hiding and Edward comes in as backup.

Sabin, a master vampire and friend of Master of the City, Jean-Claude has come to ask Anita for her help. Years ago, his mate asked him to stop drinking human blood, and in doing so it has rotted his mind and his body. Anita agrees to help restore him, but when she is not fast enough, Jean-Claude and werewolf pack leader, Richard, are taken to serve as sacrifice for Sabin. Will Anita be able to save them before it is too late?

Vampires call me The Executioner. What I call them isn't repeatable.

Burnt Offerings

The vampire council has come to town to try Jean-Claude for what they believe to be crimes against them.

The council is to be greatly feared and when they take the leopard's hostage, Anita must face the council members to save them.

Captain Pete McKinnon has come to Anita Blake for help.

A supernatural firebug is burning buildings to the ground.

Then the attacks began happening to all vampires, including the Church of Eternal Life.

It is a recreation of The Burning, and Anita must stop it.

Everyone has his or her weaknesses. Some people smoke. I collect stuffed penguins.

Blue Moon

Richard, Ulfric of the werewolf pack, and Anita's ex, is out of town studying for his biology degree when he is arrested and accused of rape. Anita travels to Tennessee to hire a lawyer and get Richard freed.

Colin, Master of the City, does not take kindly to Anita Jean-Claude's human servant, entering his territory. Not only that but, Anita has trouble with the local police trying to run her out of town. And don't forget Franklin Niley, who uses more deadly means to try to scare Anita off - including a demon. With danger in all directions, how can Anita save Richard, his family, and her friends and make it back home safe to St. Louis?

Death, jewelry, or magic; it sounded like Valentine's Day.

Obsidian Butterfly

Edward has called in a favor and he really needs the help. Anita must travel to New Mexico and act as his backup. A terrible and powerful magic is being used to skin some humans alive and to slaughter others. Edward, with his Ted Forrester - bounty hunter alias, convinces the local police to call in Anita for her preternatural expertise.

Obsidian Butterfly, the local Master of the City, could be helpful in solving this mystery, but she offers more trouble as well. Nicky Boco, necromancer, and vagamour for the local werewolf pack knows what creature is murdering the residents, but he has his own secrets to protect. And treasure hunter, Riker, rears his head and causes some serious trouble for Edwards's new family - trouble that could be deadly.

Never trust people who smile constantly. They're either selling something or not very bright.

Who's your favorite male character in the Anita Blake series?

See results

Narcissus in Chains

Some of Anita's wereleopards friends are held hostage in a case of mistaken identity. When Anita goes to save them, she is injured. The claws from a wereleopard cut into her stomach, meaning on the next full moon she may become furry herself.

If that's not enough to worry about, a panwere named Chimera comes to take over the local lycanthrope groups. With all her friends in danger, and facing a life of the lunarly challenged, Anita has her hands full. With help from John-Claude, newcomer Micah, and hopefully Richard, Anita must face Chimera to save everyone from a fate worse than death.

When the monsters are involved, it's never just one dead body. One way or another the dead multiply.

Cerulean Sins

Belle Morte, the fountainhead of Jean-Claudes line, has sent one her minions, Musette, for a visit to St. Louis. Such a visit was planned for three months from now, but for Musette to show up early is a huge insult to Jean-Claude and his authority as Master of the City. Belle wants to put Jean-Claude in his place and demand Asher back to her side.

To make things worse, Leo Harlan shows up to hire Anita to raise an ancestor of his, but he just does not seem to be on the up and up. Anita is still trying to figure him out when she discovers she is being followed. With unwanted visiting vampires playing their deadly games, unknown bad guys staking her, and bodies on the ground from suspected shapeshifter kills, Anita is in neck deep and sinking fast.

One of the things that's kept me alive is shooting first and asking questions later.

Incubus Dreams

A vampire serial killer is murdering strippers. Anita is sure that none of Jean-Claude's vampires are involved, but with the unexplainable cases in her past and with her ties to the metaphysical community becoming stronger, her status with the local law enforcement is not as strong as it used to be. Her word is no longer enough.

Anita must solve the case with the help of her friends and contacts in the vampire and lycanthrope communities. With false clues and a master vampire pulling the strings, Anita needs all the help she can get - legal or otherwise.

The true way to a man’s heart is six inches of metal between his ribs.

Anita is asked to fill in for fellow animator Larry Kirkland on an animating job in Philadelphia. She needs to raise a federal witness for the FBI so that he can testify.

Anita travels to Philly with Micah at her side. On the trip, Anita learns more about Micah, including how he became a wereleopard.

But when Anita reaches the cemetery to raise the witness, something is wrong. Her necromancy has never reacted like this.

Afraid of what she will raise, but powerless to resist, Anita raises the zombie. What will she unleash?

The truth may not set you free, but used carefully, it can confuse the hell out of your enemies.

Danse Macabre

Jean-Claude, Master of the City, is throwing a party to welcome a vampire ballet company to town.

Among the guests are several visiting master vampires and the leaders of the various local lycanthrope groups.

During the ballet, a powerful force tries to take over the minds of all the guests.

The attack brings on a metaphysical visit from the Mother of all vampires and when Mommy Dearest shows up things go from bad to scary as hell.

When crime busting is easier than your personal life, something has gone seriously wrong.

The Harlequin

When Malcolm, the head of the Church of Eternal Life, asks Anita and Jean-Claude for help from a force he cannot name, she is surprised and confused. But she is even more confused when she finds a package with her name on it that contains a plain white mask.

Jean-Claude tells her to speak of them is death unless you first receive a mask. White is a warning that you are being watched - red or black could mean death. Receiving a white mask from the Harlequin should be good news, so why are members of their group suddenly dying. The Harlequin, police of the vampires, have come to town and no one is safe.

One thing I've learned about vampires - they keep pulling new rabbits out of their cloaks.

Blood Noir

Jason, a werewolf and friend to Anita, asks her to go home with him to see his dying father - a father that was abusive and cruel. Jason needs to say goodbye to his dad and try to forgive him for how he was treated growing up. How can Anita say no - even is it means she has to fly?

With an unforgiving father and a bad case of mistaken identity, Anita tries to be a good friend and support Jason anyway she can, but Marmee Noir, the mother of all vampires chooses that weekend to strike. She cuts Anita's ties to Jean-Claude and Richard and attacks her with a metaphysical power from a thousand miles away.

Once upon a time I’d only come to the Circus to kill vampires. Now I used the employee parking lot.

Skin Trade

When Anita receives a decapitated head in the mail, she must go to Las Vegas, Nevada to face a vampire serial killer. Vittorio (the master vampire serial killer that got away in Incubus Dreams) has sent this package to bait her, so she heads to Vegas to help out the local authorities and warn them on what they are about to face.

Before she arrives in Sin City, Anita discovers that the slaughter has already began. And, Vittorio has also set a personal trap for Anita for reasons she does not yet understand. Federal Marshals Edward, Olaf, and Bernardo have all been called in to assist on the case.

Anita also has trouble on the work front. Someone has been trashing Anita's reputation and the local authorities seem to have a problem trusting Anita. Living with a vampire might have something to do with it. Can Anita help with the case and regain the trust she once had?

The local weretiger clan makes an appearance as well and Queen Bibi challenges Anita. To make matters worse, Anita receives a surprise visit from the Mother of All Darkness. Mommy Noir finally reveals her plan for Anita and it is not good. It would mean the destruction of everything Anita holds dear.

I was caught between going yippy-skippy, I get to play with them both, and running like hell.

A prospective client, Tony Bennington, asks Anita to raise his recently deceased wife as a zombie.

He tells her he justs wants to talk to his wife one last time. Anita sympathizes with Tony. She understands pain and loss.

It seems like a routine animating job for Anita, but at the last minute, she realizes something is horribly wrong.

What Tony did not tell her about his wife will have grave consequences for both Tony and Anita.

Love sucks. Sometimes it feels good. Sometimes it’s just another way to bleed.

Anita Blake Series

By Laurell K. Hamilton

This series stars necromancer Anita Blake. When she's not raising the dead she helps the police on supernatural cases. Her love life is complicated- werewolf one day, vampire the next.

The triumvirate created between Jean-Claude, Anita Blake, and Richard Zeeman has made the St Louis vampires one of the most powerful vampire kisses in America. Jean-Claude is gaining power in himself and, in turn giving it to the vampires that are under his rule. This is similar to what Bella Morte did in Europe, during her reign of power.

Through her power and dealings, she almost took over has the ruling power of Europe, and there was those who are determined that Jean-Claude won't do the same in America. They think Jean-Claude's motives may be kinder, and his rulings gentler, but they still fear what he may do with the power he has gained.

Assassins are coming to St. Louis, and their target is Jean-Claude, and the entire vampire kiss is his command. Anita knows they're coming, but what can she do to protect Jean-Claude, and all those she loves and cares for?

Me, big tough vampire slayer, no throw up at sight of decapitated heads. Right.

Hit List

A serial killer is hunting the Pacific Northwest, murdering victims in a gruesome and spectacular way. The local police suspect "monsters" are involved, and have called in Anita Blake and Edward, US Marshals who really know their monsters, to catch the killer.
But some monsters are very real. The Harlequin have been the bogeymen of the vampire world for more than a thousand years; they are a secret so dark that even to speak their name can earn you a death sentence. Now they are here in America, hunting weretigers and human police.
The Harlequin serve the Mother of All Darkness, the first vampire. She was supposed to be dead, but only her body was destroyed. Now she needs a new one, and she's decided that Anita Blake's is the body she wants. Edward thinks the serial killings are a trap to lure Anita closer to the most dangerous vampire they've ever hunted. The vampires call Edward "Death," and Anita the "Executioner," but Mommy Darkest is coming to kill one and possess the other, and she doesn't care how many others have to die along the way. Source

One serial killer sends me a human head in a box, and I get all spooked. Go figure.

I look like a biker slut from hell meets soldier of fortune pinup.

I have both rants and raves for this series. I don't begrudge Laruell K Hamilton's success, and I'm a red-blooded American male who has no problem or compunctions about sexuality or with the Supernatural Romance genre at all; honestly, I think they're great reads. I still will always wonder if she didn't have some sort of crisis around the time the book "Micah" was written, because that's when the plot holes started appearing, when literally eight chapters were just one sex scene, and when it was obvious that there was not the same amount of efffort being put in to the rewrite or edit phases of the novel creation process. I actually gave up on this series two books ago, and I thought Anita Blake was pretty much the coolest vampire hunter I'd ever read... she was originally more fun than Van Helsing and hotter than Buffy. Now, she's more like Willow that one time at band camp that she.... well, you know...

i really love the series, specially book number 9 but i have to say Laurell has gone overboard when it comes to the orgy things. i love the mistery, the romance, the suspense, the danger and in can´t put her books down but i skip the sex parts. if you notice, "danse macabre" is all about sex, most of the pages are covered in it. i wish she would return to the Anita blake we lost on bloody bones.

Love this series! Always can't wait for the next one. the minute you start You are hooked to the story.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

      I LOVE THEM!!!!

    • anonymous 6 years ago

LOVE, LOVE< LOVE the story line, characters and of course Anita herself!!

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I love the books! I missed the new one, thank goodness I read your lens! I remember the first time I opened a book, there were like 10 of them at the time and they were so popular... it started with her coming home after spending the afternoon having sex with a werewolf and then having sex with a vampire. I tossed it aside as trash... but then a bit later started with book one and it all made sense!

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I love love love the series... seriously there needs to be an A.A. (Anita Anonymous) for these books. I am so hooked. Some people claim that she has too much drama. Honestly I can't wait for the next big thing to happen, just to see how she'll cope. I appreciate the character for all her quirks and it makes me like her even more that she is so BADASS! :) I just wish I didn't feel her pain in the organization and complication of boyfriend's A,B and C lol. Still don't know who I would choose.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I have read all of the Anita Blake book twice! Love them and cannot wait for Hit List to come out.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I love Anita Blake and all her men! I have re-read the series over and over again! I can't get enough!!

    • anonymous 6 years ago

Love the books but would really like to see them more like the first few, more story line more content

    • anonymous 6 years ago

Awesome action! Awesome sex! But, Anita's nowhere close to perfect! I enjoy Laurell's books very much. I just finished #10, Narcissus in Chains, so that means I now have to fire up the wireless on my Kindle and buy #11!!! It truly is an addiction, but one I can live with! LOL

    • anonymous 6 years ago

after twilight came out i got so over vampires so fast, i didnt want anything to do with them. then my sister got me guilty pleasure of christmas one year because she new i hated vamipres. after i read the first book i fell in love with them again. hamilton's books are more unique then any other vampire book ive read. i love her work an the day she stops writing anita black will be a sad day for her fans but i will always be greatful for her books they have made me more comfortable an self-confident about myself. :) thankyou laurell

LKH has a way with words. I LOVE her AB stories.

I am absolutely hooked to the Anita Blake serious. When I need a life relief I just pick up a book and disapeer into the fabulous world she has created.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

      love----its the best

    • anonymous 6 years ago

absolutely hands down the best series i have ever read i always read steven king and dean koontz and never ventured out of the book until just recently when i was challenged by a close friend to give guilty pleasures a try now i own the whole series and am waiting patiently for the last book!

    • littlezotz 6 years ago

I'm only on the third book (Circus of the Damned), but so far I absolutely love the series. I've been reading one per day! (I started Monday and it's Wednesday today). They're quick reads and have great characters. Utterly delightful thus far. I'm hoping they'll continue to be great even after they take their turn for the erotic...

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I just hate it when I read the last page!! I just finished Bullet, which was fantastic and cannot wait unti the next book. I have read all of them and hope Laurel does not stop writing them.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I LOVE THE SERIES!!! I can't get enough!!! It has everything in it and more!!! Please keep them coming, I NEVER get bored!!!

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I love her books. Anita Blake, Meredith Gentry, author compilations like Never After- she writes with an energy that causes me to all but devour the books.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I hooked! Checked out her books at the library. Go figure.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

i love anita blake!!!! i love the fact that even though she is the heroine in the stories, she is just as conflicted as the rest of them. richard is my dream!!!!

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I love the Anita Blake series, but I seriously doubt they'll do a good job casting the roles.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I really love the series and i agree that a lot of the later books are over sexed but as we get into flirt and bullet it seems to be going back toward the story and less about sex, same with the Merideth series, more magic inbetween sex scenes. Im also glad richard is getting his holier then thou attitude shoved in his face later on tho.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

Once you begin reading her books you can't wait for the next one ,

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I love the books. I love when Hamilton gets into the love scenes with the boys, but I do wish Anita had picked Richard. But then again Im only on the 9th book.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I love the series but it seem that the storyline went downhill with too much sex between Anita and her men.....Maybe Hamilton should concentrate more on her original work as the necromenser.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

i love these books, im up to skin trade now, need to buy flirt and bullet, but no matter how many times i read them i never get bored of them

    • Wyrdinary 6 years ago

Love fest! Can't wait to see them try to capture the books on the small screen.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I love this series I have been reading them since I was in 10th grade and now I am a junior in college.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

i've read all the current books so far right up to #19 Bullet in the anita blake series and all the current books in the Merry Gentrey series up to except Divine Misdemeanors and am currently waiting for Hit List and Divine Misdemeanors to become avialable!. Ihave to say I Love Both Series but as for the Anita Blake series i was a little disapointed in the later half becuase of the lack of zombies and even more so by the fact that it has yet to go into further detail and explore farther into her Necromancy powers. It would be great if in Hit List one of the assassians was a Broker/Necromancer (either or both!!) and she was force to reach deeper into her power over all the dead to save herslf and her undead lovers! Still overall i'm going to love whatever Laurell K Hamilton comes up with.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I have read EVERY SINGLE BOOK in the Anita Blake vampire Hunter series, and i am captivated by them, i feel as if i am in these novels, it is amazing, i have never read books like these, and they are perfect. They pull the reader in and captivate them.. I can't wait for the new book in summer 2011.. I just read Bullet today. Only took me a couple hours.. Man i just get so into these books, i can't stop reading them.. This series is AMAZING, and i never want her to stop writing and adding books into this series.. i think i would never read again if LKH never came out with another book to this series..

    • JodiVee 6 years ago

I haven't read any of the Anita Blake books (yet!) but from your review, it sounds like a really good series. I think I'd like to give it a try :)

I still love the series but the first few books were the best. The newer ones have less descriptions about her killings and more to do about her sex life.

      • anonymous 4 years ago

i used to love the cool anita blake in the earlier books, now she's just a supernatural whore. sorry but lkh has lost the plot. i loved her chemistry with richard and jean claude. and micah, now there are so many for her to have any chemistry. she is constantly feeling guilty and gives us reasons for why she is doing it. lkh has a guilty conscience. she must bring back a good plot for us to believe her reasons.

I use to love the Anita Blake series till it went off course with Hamilton's marriage. I stopped reading it after the ardor. It was such a great story until the author ruined it.

      • anonymous 5 years ago

I like Anita Blake, it just the last books seen to be about the money. i miss when Laurell wrote 899 page book. the last book i read end badly. i mean really badly what happen to the mother of darkness she just let them kill her body and no one die for it. what happen to bell running and not showing up in Anita's city. It makes me wonder is it about the money

      • anonymous 5 years ago

I miss the hardcore badass from the first books I can't see how anita could possibly add another head in her bed. So I hope mrs. hamilton goes back to the vampire hunter part the cover promises. Regardless I can't stop myself from reading the books in one sitting.

      • jenniferteacher1 5 years ago

I used to eagerly await each new book, but I didn't even know the last three had been released. The stories got so focused on sex and Anita getting some new power every time she sneezed, I had to take a break from the series.

      • writer_villa 5 years ago

Some are good, while others are just above average.

      • anonymous 6 years ago

I use to love the series, ever since they started having random orgies and stuff the story has gone downhill. I liked the murder mystery and now its just a mystery as to why she has an ever growing harem or why she has a new trio of men in her bed. I got tired of it and haven't picked up any of her last 3 books because of it...

      • anonymous 6 years ago

I absolutely love anything thus woman produces till the end of time. Everyone is right once you start you can't stop reading these books has nit been a hobby anymore for me but and addictive way of life. I couldn't live without the sexy dangerous way of life if anita nlake or merry gentry!!!!!

      • anonymous 6 years ago

      • the-good-stuff 6 years ago

I really loved the first several books, they had a strong female protagonist and a great take on zombies. The series went downhill, though. There were less and less zombies and too much smut. I stopped reading at book 8.

      • ArdenBaird LM 6 years ago

Like a lot of people I think the books went downhill after Hamilton started focusing on Anita as succubus. The plots are just a way of getting to the sex. I would have thought Hamilton got enough sex with her Meredith Gentry series.

      • anonymous 6 years ago

love everyone of the books. best for stress release

      • C A Chancellor 6 years ago from US/TN

I loved this series at the beginning but I gave up on it after Book 11; the plots made less and less sense and Anita's sex life just took over the books.

      • lovrina 6 years ago

I heard that the first ones were really good until the smut got too much in the later part of the series. I like smutty reads, but I'm not sure if I could read these since I'm very picky.

      • jenms lm 6 years ago

I used to love the series but it's gone down hill and I admit I haven't read the last few. It went from a must read series to one I will get to eventually

      • anonymous 6 years ago

I Love the Book Series When is the New book coming out I can't went

      • anonymous 6 years ago

I loved them up to Obsidian Butterfly....they got to be too much about sex and relationships afterward. Recently read Skin Trade, which has my favorite characters from Obsidian Butterfly, and I loved it. Hopefully the books will be more about Anita'a actual job, and readers don't continue to be introrduced to new boyfriends for Anita.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

I really like the series and I love Jean-Claude, but I think Anita is a brat and a hypocrite. She needs to get over herself and her attitude is making the series somewhat boring now. The plots aren't as good in the later books and the sex is ridiculous at this point. I think there is too much focus on her relationships with Micha and Nathaniel. The books were better when she wasn't sleeping with every man she came in contact with. I think she should focus more on Jean Claude and maybe even Richard, since they were the first guys she got involved with.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

      • anonymous 7 years ago

I liked the books up until about book 9 then it just lost the plot, I mean come on Anita has double standards.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

        I love Anita Blake

      • anonymous 7 years ago

I was introduced to Anita by a friend. She gave me the first eight titles, saying she needed the room. I was raptured by Anita's lifestyle and way of thinking. I've been reading Anita for a little less than a year now. I have read and reread these books and they never get old.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

I love the Anita Blake series. I practically devoured the first nine books like candy. However, I feel like there is way too much sex scenes. I prefer the blood and angst to the sex. It really doesn't add too much. The first 9 books were amazing and there were only mild sexual parts of them. I struggled through the rest of the rest of the series. Only the latest where is less smut scenes did I sift through the book easier. Like getting a breath of air. I have other issues with the series but underneath it all I do love the characters and I hope the series takes a nice turn rather than it did between the books 10-14. Keep going. I still want to see where this stories go. Despite the few drops the little lovelies have already dug a deep hole in my heart too let them go now. I'll put this as a rant but really it is neither. :3 Its a complicated relationship. High hopes for the T.V. movie special.

I am a huge Anita Blake / Laurel K. Hamilton fan as well. Her first 5 Anita Blake books are my favorites. Then I have to admit that the middle ones - didn't have much in the way of plots - but I loved the character studies a lot. In her last book she seems to have returned to her earlier way of plotting. I'm so glad for that.

I discovered Anita while working at a book store and fell in love with the series. I turned many of my friends onto the series and consider many of the early books in the series to be favorites. But right around Harlequin I began to be frustrated with the series. The action, the magic, the intimate scenes were all still fantastic but what I was having a problem with was Anita herself. After countless near death escapes, and life changing events it felt like she was still dealing with the same emotional/personal issues that she had in book one. Her trust issues, stubborness and near superhuman ability to ignore anything that disturbed her too much. In a lot of ways it felt like the character hadn't changed and I right around Skin Trade was when I stopped reading. What do you think? Am I right or off the mark?

I've been meaning to read this series for a while now, the subject sounds like it's right down my alley (where vampires would hang out anyway haha). The mortal instruments is also a very good series that I would recommend checking out.

I absolutely Love this series it's my favorite for sure. I know she "has" to be with so many wonderful men but I would of been with them even if i didn't have to guess i'm more like a vampire than a human. anyway love these books wish i could go live in there world.

My fiance and I were at the comic book store and we found a couple of Anita Blake comics in the 25 cents bin. I was like "What's this??" and ended up looking them up online and found out that they were based on a book series. This intrigued me even further! I got the first book on Monday and read it all in one sitting. It's Wednesday right now and I'm already on the third book (one book a day!). I'm really enjoying the series thus far. :)

Great lens. I love reading and I love Anita Bake. there are some great authors of fantasy/horror today and she was one of the leading authors. This is well written and I would like to link it to my reading group as it is will be one of the books up for discussion in June. Enjoyed my visit her. :)

i have noticed that some people think that after the first few of these books, it is all about sex. it isnt, yes there is some scenes but most is about the next big and bad thing coming after them. i like the fact that anita has faults she makes mistakes but she always protects her people that she has taken in. if some one hurts them, they have met their end. simple as that. there are so many dynamic charaters and you can tell who they are by how Hamliton describes them, now that is a great auther. but i kind of want merry and anita to meet.

For the past four years I have probably read all of the Anita Blake books two or three times. I find these books to be extremely entertaining and Laurell K. Hamilton's way of describing her characters is very well done.
