...and the Good Die Young

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

The heart is all one needs to know,

when actions betray belief,

and when circumstance drives a soul to move,

in ways unwilling, in grief.

When morality's bounds find sandy ground,

and we so twisted by confusion's lies,

then the heart becomes the beacon true,

and the soul reveals without disguise.

No matter fault or what pressures bare,

the heart is always true unto itself,

and in judging endings it is a prudent act,

to understand the self.

Below the crust of human guise,

where truths too dark to appear,

are held from light and acceptance,

to protect those we hold so dear.

But the heart unsullied in essence,

will always find the last words to share,

and in doing so reveal the truth,

regardless of what may appear.

So in judging human kind at will,

it is the heart that holds the key,

to understanding who and what resides,

in a soul that just wants to be.

There is no hiding from the true self, no matter how you try to hide it, eventually in the throws of tumultuous life, the heart will be revealed.

Thanks again Colin. You are very kind, and yes I love to write novels and have so far written historical fiction, fantasy, and general fiction in novels. As I've gotten older I just find poetry such a challenge, having to convey thoughts succinctly and with both inspiring content and language. The six to eight months of research and writing a novel is less attractive these days. I really should push my books and try to get them into the international market, but I'm a better writer than a self-promoter...that just me. I agree about Wayne, have read and contacted him before. LOVE movies, have about 300 Blurays and 1.5 terabytes of films on file. It's my other passion. I've also been a pro-musician and artist, and still have some projects, particularly with art, that I must complete before I go. Take care. from dear old Adelaide SA

Well Sir Tony you are a man for all poetic seasons and in your writing I see and read a novelist with a narrative flow in all of your work.

Also you have the true heart of a poet and you compose your lines with such tremendous artistry and love. I can tell that your craft is a true labor of love.

Are you familiar with the song by Billy Joel - Only the good die young, I always thought that was a great title and in a variation of that you have made your own very original statement - hubbravo from the Epi-man and a man that I consider a poet's poet is WAYNE BARRETT, please check him out if you can.

Just watched a Francis Ford Coppola film - Tetro , filmed in glorious black and white - do you like films yourself and music?

I guess traveling around the world is like making your own movie and composing your own film score, isn't it.

Sending warm wishes and good energy from Colin, Little Miss Tiffy (my mum's cat who is 18 now) and Mister Gabriel my all white deaf cat at lake erie time ontario canada 11:58pm
