That sort of thing doesn't happen overnight. It's also not a matter of simply writing the "right thing" either, you have to create the article in the "right" way, and back link it on some authoritative sites.
Use the Google Keyword Tool for figuring out what kinds of articles have little competition.
The site that has given me the most page views other than Hubpages is reddit.com; but currently they've kicked me off the site, as they think I'm a "spammer" for always submitting my own material there, but you can get away with it for a while. Also, that site is mostly concerned with controversial and liberal US politics. Putting your material on Digg.com is always a good idea too, but you have to participate in those sites in order to get continuing traffic from them, and that's time consuming too. Put your links on Facebook and twitter; if you're not doing that, then . .. .those are the main social communications sites on the net these days, you simply have to join those sites and put your links there to compete.
Myspace is still a decent place for links, redgage is a good place to upload links. You've got to do SEO stuff, make pretty Hubs with pics and videos, and links; and advertise them.
