I realise we all develop verbal 'tics' and tend to use some words which we rather we didn't - not necessarily a swear word but any habitual frequent usage.what is yours?

Not sure I have one but I can list a few that drive me mad when used as every other word.

Like you know, she was like....

Using too many 'Very's' is annoying... especially when someone explains that something is very unique !  Or applying it as 'it was very, very ...'

Awsome, Cosmic, Wicked, Know wot I mean Man ?  Also feature high on the list.

Dude and Cool, I try to stop myself using them but i keep forgetting. ;-)

I know a person, who keeps saying "what was I going to say" and it can come up 5 times in one conversation. It's more annoying when you notice someone else doing it.

but.  I use it at the end of sentences and people often wait for the rest of the sentence.  There's really nothing else.  For some reason I just tack it on there.

"Hey!"  When teaching in north Queensland twenty odd years ago, I picked up the vernacular of that region, where they end sentences with "Hey".  It is more of a question than an exclamation and I've reduced its usage since, but cannot remove it altogether.

OK! It drives me mad, as I keep saying it when I'm teaching ... I've started to catch myself now, but it still slips out sometimes.

I have had a habit of swearing a lot.  I have tried not to but especially when surprised or extremely upset I tend to slip up more.  Other than that I have done pretty well.

I use the word ridiculous a lot, especially when talking about something I don't agree with.

That.  I use it too often in my writing, and most of the time it's just an extra word.

To my eternal shame, I've been caught on tape using the 'filler phrase' "anywhosits" I think three times in the course of a two-hour college radio show. Needless to say, I wasn't the hard rocking rebel DJ that I imagined myself to be.

I drive myself crazy when I catch myself saying the word crapola! I guess it's better than say the S word.

I say, twat, but only in my head. But far to much to describe people.

I'm afflicted with a variety of California slang and West Coast filler talk: "kickin' it", "fool", "dank", "legit", "bomb". It can be quite annoying given that my speech sounds fairly intelligent otherwise!

When I am speaking, I tend to use the word "anyway . . ' as a transition.

The word 'that'.  It's used so many times when it is in fact unnecessary.  For example, in a simple sentence:

I want you to know that I'm sick.

    Why not just...

I want you to know I'm sick.

I have to work on it constantly otherwise I'd have 'thats' all over the place and I wouldn't want that.

To my great shame I use the word "like" as if I were a Valley Girl. It drives me insane how much I use it! "This guy, he was like ugly, and like this guy was like hot." It's really rather embarrassing because my grammar is much better than that!
