what I did was join a small writing group. I write well & thanks to a good education my grammer, punctuation, etc. are all good. But my writing was ponderous, full of purple prose, and boring. The excellent group of all published writers, taught me a great deal, how to be brief and to the point, keep the story going, keep the reader interested.
As a result one of my short stories is to be broadcast over Valley Public Radio, Fresno, California, in April, I have just published a memoir entitled SHIBARAKU, Memories of Japan 1926-1946, and I write for HUB Pages.
I hope you can find such a group, they are invaluable.
