Which author influences your writing most?

It is inevitable the more we read the more we want to write. In the early writing there will always be strong influences from our favorite author/genre. Who do you feel influences your writing most?

Oh I do love her At Wit's end columns - I haven't read longer books but mostly her essays. Becky, now that you mention it, you do have that great sense of humor and warmth in your writing.

Brings back fond memories. I remember reading a collection by O Henry at school stories such as 'The Gift of Magi' and ' the last leaf (?)' are seared in my memory banks. I love Saki ~( HH Munro) too. Masters of the short story form.

Great choice.Terry is a brilliant writer and his range and scope are quite wide. I like the way he has created a (Disc)world that allows him to straddle genres and themes all in his own unique voice. Its sad that he's been diagnosed with Alzheimers.

I haven't read any of her books - I looked up the Nighthuntress series and Cat and Bones do sound like a guilty pleasure. May have to try a couple ( books, not vampires!)

Would you believe it if I said, Stephen King is still one of my big influences too! I like the way he conjures up the scene, gets into characters minds and straddles various genres effortlessly. He is a fantastic writer!
