I'll have to say a fairly recent read, "Unbroken" is my favorite book. That book was written so well, the real life characters just jumped off the pages. Filled with sadness, happy days and several funny moments.
One of the memorable parts of the book was when one of the American prisoners in a japanese prison camp was teaching one of the prison guards how to say his japanese name in english. This guard was so happy, that he would always tell the new American prisoners to the camp his name in english.
Except, the American who taught the guard on how to say his name in english, wasn't completely honest. The guard would introduce himself to the new prisoners telling them his name in english as, "I'm an A%hole". Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact instance as it was told, but you get the idea.
The story in this book was a great example of the American spirit. Something to remember as we approach the 4th of July Celebration.
