   How many words are in a 200 page eBook?
   
   I am working on an eBook and was wondering on the length. How many words are contained in an eBook of 200 pages using a 12 pt font?

   I didn't know the answer to this question but was also curious so I looked on the internet and got varying answers to the question. I think we are talking about 50,000 words, but one site said 90,000, which really sounds too high. It will be interesting to see if someone more knowledgeable can accurately answer this question.

      Thanks Pamela.. I did the same thing. I couldn't find a good answer to the range of words but my book is about 40,000 so I think I'm close.

   This really does depend on not only the font size, but also the complexity of the words.  Obviously, a high intelligence sci-fi book with many technical terms will have fewer words on their pages than an equally long juvenile book.
   
   What I found on one site was a rough rule of thumb was about 200 words per page, and running that through the calculator gives us about 40,000 words for a 200 page book.  This sounds about right, of course this is right on the cusp between a novel and merely a novella.  If you need to you should put a little bit more in there to ensure it's well within the novel category, as you can get a lot more money for that.

      Thanks Johndnathan. I was checking around and saw something about 200 words per page, but other sites said about 150 per page. I guessed it would be around 40,000 words but I wanted to double check.  Thanks for your insight.

   I've heard, but never bothered to check, that there are about 400 words per page of a standard paper back.  How many that would turn to in electronic publishing, I have no idea.  Perhaps half that per page to allow for double spacing to make the thing easier  to read.
