How do I write a scary story?
I need to write a scary story for my English class. What are some common rules to stick with and themes to remember?
Since we are right on the eve of Halloween, I think you shouldn't have any problem getting a good idea from off of the radio, television, or even just from all of the Halloween scenery as you drive down the street.
I would recommend reading horror stories from some of the great authors in the genre, but it sounds like you don't have a lot of time for that. So, instead, think of some of your favorite scary stories (from where ever) and model yours after them. Don't worry about it sounding similar, you just want to use that familiar story as a stepping stone to get yours off the ground. After you're off and moving; let the story go in which ever direction it wants to.

My question is how do you write a story? I have been interested in writing a story that I can continue on a weekly or even daily basis (Hubs). Now, I have difficulty knowing what I want to do. For example how did J.K. Rowling think about starting Harry Potter? More so than that, how did she come up...
