I have to add Harper Lee's only novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird." It captures a small town in the rural wrestling with racism, morality, prejudice, child-rearing, single parenting, and the importance of a father's influence. These are issues that we face today as much as then. The film adaptation, starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, is as faithful to the book as any movie has been.
