Hello Lady_E. Not sure and how are you? Odd a statement and a question. A book club would be fun if it is subject focused somehow and included writing and/ or presentations I would think. I'm not sure if this will help or not. Being involved with sales and marketing this and that a teacher offered me the experience and advice of looking in instead of out. Not really the thinking outside the box analogy more the what will draw a member to a club of any type.
Interactions would more than likely be key. That offers who leads the interactions at the group level? Questions could be asked is the organizer the leader? Does leadership occur naturally by followers or by leadership. Will the book be the leadership? Or will the presenter of the book be the leader?
Organizations are simply more than one. Two is an organization many times. We just tend to offer it is larger than when in actuality it is really more than one with a purposeful purpose. Now, please consider that is a view of this self and not necessarily any others. Yet, I take the symbolic interactionist view and that says the self is the social "I" as subject and the object of self is the "me," therefore an organization with a purposeful purpose offering a smile.
ESL is foreign to me from a perspective, however a goal is to learn Swedish beginning this year. I have CD's and such yet haven't started. If it were me and I had an opportunity for joining a book club I would jump on it in a heartbeat if the stars lined up with time and such. I giggle with self saying I get to be a kid again. What an opportunity to both learn a language and relearn an experience of learning.
So, looking from that perspective I would like to read aloud. You betcha' Maybe begin with a words here and there, next a sentence, followed with a paragraph, and the finally stand up in front of the group or club at a podium of distinguished honor and read a whole page. You betcha . . . If there is not any giggling "with" then that is a whole new subject.
Hmmmm, maybe later down the road I will look into such a group. Thank you for the idea Lady_E said with a smile.
