I used to love the book 'slip the otter finds a home'. It was about an otter's mini adventure to locate a new home for himself. I can't remember why he has to find a new home, but it was one of the early stories that developed, in me, a love of adventure.

I learned to read at age four and by the time I was in school began reading a popular children's series of books about a widow and her children. The first book in the series was THE FIVE LITTLE PEPPERS AND HOW THEY GREW. Every title in the series contained the phrase, "The Five Little Peppers...."

The original book was an inspiring and heartwarming story about family love and closeness flourishing in spite of adversity. The children (two boys and two girls) adored their mother ("Mamsie") and were willing to do anything for her.

The series continues as time passes, during which a benefactor helps the family and the children grow into adults. If memory serves me, I believe a movie was made about the Peppers as well.

It's been six and a half decades since I was introduced to the Pepper family, but I still remember how much I loved reading about them.

It is great to see that you started reading at a young age. My daughter is 5 and we read with her all the time. She is learning fast but her school keep sending her home with books that are for the nursery kids.

I think one of the greatest gifts you can give children is to read to them early and teach them to love books. Reading comprehension and a large vocabulary at a relatively young age helps them learn other subjects in school.

My favorite was "Yertle The Turtle" by Dr. Seuss... and now I read it to my own kids!

I liked the Butter Battle Book and I've just managed to get a copy for my daughter. It's a pity I did not still have mine as it is rare in the UK

We read Stig of the Dump at school, then I read it again at home. A great story about a boy who found a caveman living in a rubbish dump and became his friend.

Green Eggs and Ham, by Dr. Seuss. I also read the book to my children and in the future, I plan to read it to my grandchildren.

Dr. Seuss books are wonderful!  My own children loved them, as did my grandchildren. Now I keep several of them at my home for when my great-grandchildren visit, as they love them too. Dr. Seuss wrote books that will remain popular with children.
