Would you charge forty dollars  for your book?

You can price your book as you would like to from many categories. If your book contains valuable information how would you go about pricing that book?
Would you  charge forty dollars for a well-researched book about your  personal experiences with herbs and Indian spices?

The first thing I'd have to ask myself is:
"Would I pay $40 for a book about someone's personal experiences with herbs and Indian spices?" The answer is No!
The next thing I would do is research books that are similar to mine to see how much they are selling for. One also has to bear in mind how well established and respected the author is in her/his field.
In the U.S. $40 is a lot to spend on any book unless it's a required college text book. Most people aren't going to want to shell out that kind of money for (personal) reading. One man's opinion! smile

Interesting opinion you have and so much depends on the individual.

Absolutely! However as dashingscopio points out does the books worth have that value in a marketplace. Heeding those suggestions investigating the marketplace would be prudent. It depends on margins too. How much margin between publication cost and marketing price.

If a self publishing method where it is on demand publishing rather than having to order a volume of books one may be able to experiment much easier. Depending on publication agreements one may still be able to switch the publisher later if successful as a self-published on demand print book. Prudence on reading the agreement is recommended.

Self-publishing is a experiment for many individuals and and POD sounds a great idea to go ahead with kind of price as I see it. Thank you

Only if all other books on the same topic are being sold for around that price. No matter how good you think your book may be, very few people are going to buy it if they can get similar books for a fraction of the price. For one thing, they won't know it's well-researched until they read it or see reviews from professionals stating that fact. And personal experience probably won't really influence someone to buy it unless they know you and whether or not they can rely on your honesty and truthfulness. All this wouldn't matter much if you were noted scientist, doctor, or herbalist because people will pay more if they can verify the professional "pedigree" of the author.
