My son doesn't want to study at all. Especially, writing is something that he hates. What to do?
He cries at the top of his voice whenever I ask him to settle down for studies. In fact, his behavior is troublesome and I myself feel like crying at times.
The best way to teach a child is to find something that interest him and use it as a hook. Suppose he likes video games, get him to write about it, read articles about it from other gamers... Once he is comfortable doing the stuff he enjoys, then it would be easier to move on to other subjects. Never force the issue. Let him discover the joy and benefits of reading and writing.
Has he told you why he hates homework and studying? That's the first thing I'd ask him. There's not much you can do if his reason is, "It's boring," or "I want to play instead of doing schoolwork." But if it's more serious, as in "I don't understand this," or "Writing is hard for me," then he needs help.
If your son didn't always act out like this, I'd talk to his teacher. It may be that refusing to work on his studies is his way of "getting back" at the teacher. Children don't abruptly change their usual behavior without a reason.
Jack is right: you can't force your son to do something he doesn't want to do. But you can give him a choice: "If you choose not to do your homework when you come home, then you also choose to not play video games after supper."
Good luck!
He simply says that he does not like to read or write. Though, at times I use tricks to settle down and do his homework, still most of the times it is a fight for me to make him do so. He is definitely not having any problem with writing Natasha.
I really don't like hearing that your son throws tantrums. These tantrums are unacceptable and need to stop immediately. Does he fight with the teacher? Instead of using tricks, it may be time to lay down the law; No homework, no video games.
Yeah, I am having a hard time to deal with his tantrums Natasha and really looking for effective measures to make him write and read. Thank you for your input.
Are there other adults in your son's life that he respects? Perhaps one of them can talk to him about his homework. To me, the bigger issue is that he's treating you so disrespectfully. If need be, lock up the game system. He's not the boss here.
Yeah, my Mother-in-law is there. He is very close to his father, but he is in another place from last six months due to his official job. I am getting strict with him though, and at times he does study also, but most of the times he starts to cry.

My 12 year old recently went on a camping trip with some of his dads friends. While on this 'camping' trip the following happened. The old ladys grand-daughter was 'upset' so the woman gave her car keys to my son and told him to take her grand-daughter for a drive. He said it was only...

I understand everyone needs a hobby or a past time, but should our adult males be playing video games more than our kids!! I have an older brother, he doesn't have any kids, yet instead of doing something constructive he will play the game,PS3, from dusk til dawn.
