I understand when things are wrong, or frustration takes hold of a crummy situation, so naturally one can let it all out in bad writing. But doesn't that stay with you later down the road?

Hmm, maybe it's an attempt to appear professional, or to guard oneself. Often showing emotion is associated with weakness, so we hide our feelings to shield against ridicule.
