Is it true you NEED an agent to pitch your book? All answers are appreciated
You don't, but you have a better chance of getting published with one. A lot of publishers won't even accept unsolicited manuscripts. Even if they do accept manuscripts without representation, your work is going directly into the slush pile with manuscripts from countless other hopefuls.
For most publishers, yes, you need an agent. But why wouldn't you want one? An agent results in higher advances, as well as publications in different languages and movie rights. They do the legwork and make sure you both get what your book's worth.
I know querying agents is a pain and terribly stressful, but it really does help. Take the time that's needed to find an agent. You'll also learn a lot more about the publishing industry if you do.

Would you rather self-publish an e-book or let a literary agent handle it for me?If you had completed an e-book and a literary agent seemed interested in it, would you go that way or do you think it would be more of an advantage if you published it yourself?

What is the best way to find an agent/publisher?I have self-published before because I didn't think I could afford to find myself an agent or publisher. I don't know how to go about sending off to a publisher or agent, or what the latter really entails
