Recently our company distributed a new handbook. An employee came to me and said that a sentence...

in the handbook had a wrong word usage. Could you solve this debate. Here is the sentence. (It is an incomplete sentence--it is describing a temporary employee). "Employees engaged to work full time or part time on the company's payroll with the understanding that their employment will be terminated no later then/than on completion of a specific assignment." Could you tell me which word to use-then or than and the reason for the word used.
