bedtime jitters oh no

Updated on February 2, 2012

bedtime jitters oh no

The sun had set and stars filled the sky

Time for Grace to sulk and cry

Please just five minutes more

A request mum and dad would ignore.

Up the stairs its time for bed

Close your eyes and rest your head

Her door was closed shutting out the light

Grace braced herself for a long night.

Tossing and turning she couldn’t sleep

It was useless counting sheep,

She lost count upon hearing a spooky creak.

Hiding under the covers tempted to peek

Was it a ghoul or may be a ghost,

Which would scare her the most?

Feeling brave she searched her room

No witches hat no creepy broom

No scary monsters to be seen

Now feeling silly at how frightened she’d been.

She closed her eyes as she lay down her head

Safe and sound, tucked up in bed.

lilmiss87, I love this! You've described so well a child's nightime fears in such lovely poetic form.
