Bible Stories for Children Teach Important Life Lessons

Updated on August 1, 2013

Helping children to learn about the Bible

Bible stories for children are a great way to introduce what can otherwise be a very confusing topic for kids. I remember sitting in church as a child and feeling bored and confused as the adults around me stared and listened intently to the priest at the front of the church. I went to the required CCD classes, but a lot of the lessons that were being taught were still way over my head at the time. Kids can benefit greatly from having Bible stories brought to their level of understanding. When I was given some books about the Bible that were actually written for children, I felt like I had a clue about what was going on every Sunday. Children love to hear stories and to have books read to them. If you want your children to learn about your religious faith, consider getting some books that you can read together and discuss. It will help them to understand, and you'll probably have some fun reading to or with them.

Bible Stories at a Glance

There are many Bible story books available today. These are a wonderful way to tell important stories that teach both historical lessons and moral values to children.

Read Aloud Bible Stories for Preschool Kids

A great introduction to Bible stories for very young children

The Read Aloud Bible Stories series is a great way to start teaching preschoolers about God and the Bible. These stories are told at a simple level that your children will be able to grasp. The books encourage parents to guide children toward comprehension by including a page that focuses on what children learned as the story was read to them. These volumes can be purchased separately or as a set.

The Jesus Storybook Bible

Every Story Whispers His Name

This is one of the most popular Bibles for kids today. It won a Moonbeam Award Gold Medal in the category of religion. This book gets creative (in a good way) when introducing the characters and stories of the Bible. Children follow clues to figure out that Jesus is like the "missing piece" in puzzle.

Great illustrations and well told stories will capture the imagination of your little ones. I wish this had been around when I was little. Jesus is, of course, the central character. This book gets a lot of great reviews, but I did notice one that pointed out that some of the illustrations were not accurate. To me, that is a minor thing when teaching children these sometimes confusing stories, but you can click on the link below to read more if you like. This book tells a great story in a way that children can grasp.

100 Bible Stories and Songs

This story book comes with two CDs that have over two hours of songs on them to reinforce what is taught in the stories. Children (and adults) sometimes remember things better when there is music involved. This is a fun way to get the family learning about the Bible outside of church.
