Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Updated on December 2, 2013

Find out more about Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier is a movie that is sure to please just about all comic book movie fans who loved the Avengers.

The film has not yet started filming, with a release date (currently) in early 2014, but already people are beginning to queue up to see what wil be another surefire hit for Marvel.

Of course very little has been revealed so far, but we can get the barest glimmers of what will happen from what facts have been released so far.

What we know about Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier - Current information on the new Marvel Movie

Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Marvel has stated that a large part of this movie will be having 1940's era morality and sensibilities Steve Rogers deal with modern day life and finding his place as a person and a superhero in modern American life.

Lot's of humor and fun in that! We saw glimpses of Steve coming to grips with life in the modern world in the Avengers movie, but there is more than enough to make that a centerpiece of the humor and spirit side of the movie.

But how about the action in Captain America 2?

With just the title of the Captain America, Marvel seems to have given away a major plot point. The Winter Soldier in the comic books started out as one of Captain America's enemies. Well...a friend turned enemy, who eventually turned friend. (confused yet?)

The Winter Soldier is Bucky Barnes. Captain America's friend who was last seen falling to his death from a train in the "First Avengers" movie. It seems he too is found after years, given some powers and training and brainwashed to fight as the Winter Soldier.

Exactly how the movie will spin this is up in the air. But with the title and the news that the actor who played Bucky Barnes signed a multi-picture deal, it seems likely that they will bring about something very close to this.

New sidekick for Captain America

In the comic books Captain also had a sidekick who worked with him a lot. A man known as "the Falcon". That role has been cast and is going to be played by actor Anthony Mackie.

Specifics may change somewhat between now and the release date, a staggering YEAR and a HALF from now. But you can bet that it will be a rip-roaring great time and build the excitement for an eventual Avengers 2 sometime in 2016 or 2017.

While the Storyline of the Captain America and the Winter Soldier has never before been told on the big screen, it has been one of the resounding fan favorite story-lines. There have been a few tales involving Capt. America and the Winter Solider, and while it is highly doubtful the movie will follow the story-lines exactly...it is a safe bet that ,many of the best elements of these story's will be used, at least with some modification to fit the existing Avengers and Captain America continuum within the "movie" world.

These are the large graphic novels that contain all of the important parts of the Captain America: Winter Solider Storyline. Those that love the story of Captain America, but have not yet read the comic books may find these collections really interesting, and might perhaps enhance the upcoming Capt. America: Winter Soldier Storyline.

I hope they will not screw up this one. Cap is the least fan-favorite superhero. They should have made one more Hulk movie instead. Great lens anyway.

@retta719: Yeah, there will have to be a bit of a "rework on some of the comic plotlines. But i am sure they will work in some of the better parts. I have a lot of faith in Marvel. Now that THEY do the movies, they seem to get it right far more often than not.

@Sabre1000: Yeah, Avengers 2 is one I am looking forward too also... I think the plan is for them to do a few more "single" movies before that one though...so I would guess 2015 or 2016. A bit of a wait...

I love the Winter Soldier comic book series, so I'm looking forward to seeing it on screen. I'm a little worried about how they'll spin some of the details, but lately they've been doing a great job with big-screen translations and making them stand apart from the comic book.

I like how you always pull together some information about up-coming movies with some sage speculation about what to expect. Yep, THIS is how to write about a movie that hasn't been released yet - it's great fun to read the tidbits you've figured out so far.
