Christmas Novel

Updated on October 23, 2013

Do you have a favorite Christmas novel?

A good, lighthearted book can really put you in the holiday spirit. Each year I try to read one or two new Christmas novels. Christmas is a very busy time of year for me, so I really don't have the time to get into a long book. Most of the time the books I pick are what I call the "feel good" easy reading type books. The book club I belong to also picks a Christmas type book for our December meeting, so I have read quite a few books over the years.

In this lens I will share some of the Christmas novels I have enjoyed and also show my list for future reads.

Christmas Books I Have Read

Promise Me - Richard Paul Evans

I really enjoyed this latest book by Richard Paul Evans. It is a delightful story full of mystery that begins one Christmas Eve with a secret that is kept for 18 years till another Christmas Eve. Keeps you guessing.

A Redbird Christmas - Fannie Flag

In this delightful book, Fannie Flag uses her wonderful sense of humor to bring us a story of good neighbors and the power of love. A must read book for the holiday season.

The Christmas Train - David Balducci

I always love a good mystery and David Balducci gives us a delightful Christmas mystery in The Christmas Train.

The Christmas Box - Richard Paul Evans

Richard Paul Evans books are always inspiring. This one is no exception and is a great "feel-good" book for the holiday season.

Skipping Christmas - John Grisham

This book by John Grisham was made into a movie. It has a story that I can really relate to about a couple who decides to escape the business of the holiday season by going on a cruise. I love Christmas, but there are times when the cruise thought has crossed my mind. This book is full o f Grisham's twists and turns and makes a quick read during the busy holiday season.

The Christmas Quilt

We read this book for my book club several years ago, and everyone agreed it was a good story. Christmas decorations help to bring up memories from the past.

A Season of Angels - Debbie Macomber

Debbie Macomber brings us a delightful story of three kooky angels, Goodness, Shirley, and Mercy and their adventures on bringing "good will on earth". It is a delightful comedy that will keep you laughing throughout.

A Cedar Cove Christmas

A nice "feel good" Christmas story.

The Christmas Thief

Who is the Christmas thief? This mother and daughter duo are always good for a fun who-done-it during the holidays.

Christmas Books I Want to Read

Call Me Mrs. Miracle - Debbie Macomber

I always love Debbie Macomber's Christmas stories.

Christmas at Harrington's

This one looks interesting.

What is your favorite book to read at the holidays?

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbra Robinson. I read it outloud to my children and now my grandchildren. By the end, our hearts are softened with Christmas love and warmth.

After being introduced to Debbie Macomber's Christmas books yesterday, I've just ordered "Mrs. Miracle." Looking forward to reading this author's Christmas series.

Time for me to start making my Christmas reading selections for this year! I start reading Christmas books right after Halloween. They help put in the mood for Christmas.

I've read about 1/2 of these but now have more for my list, thank you! So far, Debbie Macomber is my favorite Christmas author!

Oops, forgot to mention, I'd be happy to join you on a Christmas cruise! I've had Christmas in snow country all my life. One year though, we had a bon fire going all of Christmas and it was so nice we didn't even need jackets. My sister was out there in her pink shorty pajamas.

Oh for the luxury of time to read! I might catch a movie version of a book while on the computer. These all look quite wonderful. I do get to read Christmas stories to my grandchildren, so I guess that counts.

Well, I go more for the stories ... "twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse ..."

I have read a couple of the books on your list and just picked up a few more at the library. I kind of immerse myself this time of year with Christmas books, movies, and music. :)

I love the Debbie Macomber books, but my all time favorite is Shepherds Abiding by Jan Karon. I read it every year in December, and am about midway through it right now. Promise Me sounds like one that I "must read"! Merry Christmas!

I don't read much fiction these days, but I did zip through a Kinky Friedman novel called "Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch" (very strange book) and am working my way through the most recent Outlander series book by Diana Gabaldon, "An Echo in the Bone". Neither one has anything to do with Christmas. I saw some titles in your list that I may look up to read - most likely the Debbie Macomber books would be the ones I'd find to read first. I like her knitting themed books; I think I might even have a lens on one of them, but I can't remember if it's her or another author I like. Too many lenses, not enough brain cells or coffee this morning. Loved the lens, though. Thumbs up !

I've read 'Skipping Christmas', and, from my library, "Silent Night" by Mary Higgins Clark! A A 'Season of Angels' by Debbie Macomber looks interesting. Will have to check that one out. Happy Holidays!

I didn't know that John Grishom was connected with that movie (which I haven't seen) nor have I read the book. In fact, I don't think about Christmas novels, or rather I didn't, but you have planted the seed in my mind!

What a great selection of books. I really like to read but have been so busy with stuff online and offline that I hardly ever sit down and read a book for pleasure. Even my library card has dust on it.

You know I love to read and these look like great selections and recommendations for me. To choose a favorite, would be impossible :)

I must admit I really enjoy the Tales of Narnia at Christmas with the wonderful way CS Lewis has of weaving the story of Christain Faith into a super story. Lensrolled to my Christmas Books lens and blessed by a passing Squid Angel :-)

I read the Mary Higgins Clark holiday ones, but prefer her full-length suspense ones over the shorter Christmas ones.

A Season of Angels and The Christmas Thief are two of my favorites! I read them every year (I'm such a sap! LOL) I can't wait for November when all the new Christmas novels come out. I could easily go broke buying all that I want. Great lens Mary Beth!
