coulda been

Updated on August 30, 2011

it could have been the way you kissed me

it could have been the rain

it could have been your voice

answering only to my pain.

it could have been my sandy toes

on that perfect summer night

we were only children then...

at least that's what it seemed like.

it could have been your wisdom

no wait....that was mine

it could have been the way you held me

or that you were so kind

it could have been the tears

that made the sand stick to my feet

it could have been the thousand goodbye's

that ive given you, and you gave me.

whatever it was it could have been

that made my heart turn round

must be the same thing that made me love you

made me feel lost... yet found

it could have been the curl of hair

that never would sit still

that you tucked behind my little ear

when you kissed me in the chill.

it could have been the crease

that i stare at when you smile

or maybe it was the scruff of your cheek

who knows, its been a while.

we may be bubbles floating

we may be for a reason

either way i love you

and your presence can be so pleasing

take this little i love you

and tuck it in your shirt

and even if its crinkled

or faded by the dirt

its still as strong as always

even if its simply there

just a reminder of the linger

that your hand leaves on my hand.

Happy belated birthday Pink'Um. "It could have been" is such a perfect premise for a poem. It invites the reader's curiosity from beginning to end. "Tuck it in your shirt" invents such a terrific image which I have never read anywhere before. Your originality and capacity for deep love and emotion are great strengths. Bravo, my friend.

Great poetry pink umbrella. It takes me back a few years. I don't know much about poetry, but I enjoyed the way your words flowed and fell into place. Good writing!

Hey Pink, at first I began with great thoughts, but then as I kept reading, it appeared that you weren't talking about what I was thinking. It's okay. Not a problem. However, it was an awesome expression of your thoughts and feelings. Thank you for sharing. :)
